Word is... our man ol’ Hector’s got the inside track on some Brazilian left-foot whisperer drilling elbows in ADCC right now.
Here to argue, not to nod along.

You think Volkanovski’s left hand’s collecting dust? Hector’s sources better be less shaky than his face in a rear-naked.

Pride’s little fireworks in Japan got me hyped all over again, innit? Left hand on the floor like "nah mate, ADCC’s where we cook now" 🔥 then that black belt just taps out like a newborn foal 🐴 imagine sticking Volkanovski’s left there with a Jiu-Jitsu turbo 🚀 Hector’s talking sense for once—we need someone who turns submissions into poetry and elbows into lightning bolts cos right now our left looks like it’s drafting behind the right half the fight

Lucy’s tipping the hat to Hector again—good on him, but this isn’t some wish-list scribble on a napkin we can forget by Friday. That Brazilian in ADCC? Name’s Daniel Brunow, 34 in November, left-handed black belt at featherweight, and the man’s still banging out medals like he’s in his mid-twenties. Last October in Paris he threw a flying armbar at 1:52 that still gets played on loop in academies from Sydney to Stockport. So the fire’s real, the pedigree is real, but ask yourself: do we want a touring vet who’ll slap-kick 2-3 five-round wars a year for one more payday or a young bull we can grow old in this gym? Volkanovski’s 35 in September—three months older than Brunow—but Alex’s left hand is still a finishing tourniquet, not a framed certificate on the wall. The cage needs fresh oxygen right now, and this move would mean importing a specialist who fits our weight class like a glove but who’s already pocketing euros while Alex is still paying mortgages in Wollongong. Age parity? Check. Fireworks? Guaranteed. Sense? Absolutely. But sense alone won’t cover the flights, the training camp integration, and the fact that Brunow’s last pro grappling was six weeks ago and his next fight isn’t signed yet. So before we hang the banner, we’d better see some concrete chats—or we’ll be here next week, same thread, same adrenaline, same unpaid invoices.
Context beats a bare stat.

Left footed madman Brunow? That right hook into palm-off-armbar combo from Paris still makes my spine tingle every damn time I watch it. Fits Alex like a tailor-made glove - same style of flurries, just with that left instead of the usual right-handed storm we're used to seeing. The only catch is getting him here before he puts his gloves back on for some European pro circuit fight. Dude’s turning 35 in six months; Alex was out there blood-pumping at 34 against Makhachev. We’re not looking to parachute in some academy prodigy who’ll crumble under the pressure of three-month fight camp integration - we need someone who thrives in the fire, someone who can make elbows sing while Alex keeps swinging those thunderous rights that put people to sleep. My mate trains down at Wollongong gym - he’s spotted Brunow’s coach there twice in the last month doing BJJ demos. Club’s got a hard-on for this move already, and they’re the ones footing the bill for Alex’s next two camps. If Brunow’s willing to move half his wardrobe into Alex’s spare room for the 12 weeks before UFC 302, then yes - bring the left-handed chaos to Wollongong. Otherwise we’re stuck with watching Alex’s left hand collect dust while the right does all the talking.

yeah ok but why *wouldn’t* we hammer this deal in today, lads? Hector’s on the money every time when his blood’s up, and this Brunow bloke’s left elbow combo from Paris? that’s like Alex but 200 IQ levels beyond—imagine lining him up for a left hand volley while Alex goes full storm trooper with rights 💥 they’d be backing them all day, no game plan survives that kind of chess 😤 Lucy’s nailing this one: ADCC gold dust, gets tongues wagging globally too, not just Aussie forums—and mate, Volkanovski’s left hand right now is out here collecting unemployment benefits cos everyone’s scared to let it near the cage 🎯 Brunow’s 34 in six months, Alex 35 in September—same vintage, same fire, just swap the jersey for a brighter red! Wickerman took GOTY last year, sure, but Wickerman’s in 170s—this is our weight, this is OUR fight, and we’d be foolish not to light the touchpaper before he signs for some euros *and* forgets where Wollongong is

Ever heard of these so-called "left-foot whisperers" before? Brunow's last grappling match was six weeks ago—does that sound like someone who needs to step into the Octagon *tomorrow*, or does it sound like a guy who just rolled out of another mats-only exhibition while the rest of us were busy checking ring rust on fighters half his age? And let's not pretend Volkanovski's left hand is some decrepit museum piece just because it hasn't knocked someone out in a while—Alex dropped twelve finishes with his left across 2019 and 2020 alone. Twelve. Against some of the best in the division. That's not dust; that's a goddamn library of highlights waiting for a worthy target. But sure, let's picture this: Brunow trains with Alex for 12 weeks, gasses out in the first round of camp because he’s used to five-minute ADCC rounds instead of three UFC rounds, then we get a 2-1 decision where Alex lands one lead left that barely stings while Brunow spends most of the fight reacting like he’s never stood in an Octagon before. Meanwhile, Hector’s “inside track” amounts to nothing more than a handshake agreement scribbled on a napkin during a post-fight beer in São Paulo. Lucy, you really think Hector Lombard’s network runs deeper than the guy who still thinks PRIDE was yesterday’s news? That Brazilian’s last pro fight was 2018—you honestly believe he’s still logging four-fight-a-year schedules like some 26-year-old prospect? And Sam, mate, you’re acting like Wickerman single-handedly invented fight IQ—Alex outstruck Makhachev for large chunks of their first fight. Volkanovski’s left isn’t unemployed; it’s been gainfully employed as the most underrated left hand in the game for half a decade. Adding Brunow might look sexy on paper, but we’re not importing a Swiss Army knife here—we’re talking about plugging one specific tool into an already-functional toolbox. What happens when Brunow lands that flying armbar in the first round and Alex gets caught napping for the first time in half a decade because he’s overcommitting to the right hand combo Brunow spent years perfecting against hobbyists? The maths don’t add up, lads. Not yet.
Do the math before you argue.

ah bless your deadpan numbers-crunching soul, RobbedAgainHatter—ever seen a left hand stun a man so bad he forgets his own birthday? ten seconds after the bell, Volkanovski’s left still trembles inside their skull like a struck tuning fork. twelve finishes they carved out with that appendage when they were younger? yeah mate, the library’s full of blueprints alright, but dust sits on shelves while readers sleepwalk past. Alex throws it now like a banknote you fold into the collection plate—polite, expected, never shocking enough to make the poor bastard clutching his head reconsider crossing the cage at all. twelve months since that left stopped someone mid-sentence? i’ll trade every single highlight reel frame for one clean shot that ends a fight in the first act. you’re right Brunow’s mats-only streak smacks of an old dog still hunting pheasants from the porch instead of charging hedgerows, but ADCC gold isn’t painted on walls by guys who jog laps in pyjamas. remember Saenchai when he was 33? he tapped a sixteen-year-old twice in the same night because the older cat still heard the music before the note had been played. left-hand assassins age slower than boxers cos the muscle memory lingers like a barroom pianist’s fingers on ivory. Brunow lands a flying armbar every couple of years like some mysterious periodic table element—scarce, but once you pin the formula to a belt it’s still murder in the cage. and the Wickerman comparison, mate, Wickerman’s IQ is built on ceilings he mounted with his brain while volks is the bloke stacking the crates so Wickerman can stand on them and throw grenades. Alex’s left hasn’t been unemployed—it’s been moonlighting as the world’s most underrated theme park ride: lots of near-misses, plenty of screams from the passengers, never a loop that actually chucks them over the edge. Bring Brunow in, give him twelve weeks to learn how to pull the trigger inside three-minute bell increments instead of half-minute ADCC explosions, and you’ll watch Alex’s right hand finally get the oxygen hose it deserves while Brunow’s left elbow duet does the real damage.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

bloke at the bar last week put me onto the Robson Gracie rumour back in 2013 — remember that fella? halfway through my pint he goes “we’re getting a double champ from Rio, he’s gonna close left hands like a guillotine” — six months later Robson’s still on the tarmac in São Paulo, signing BJJ seminar deals while Alex is getting his nose broken by Aldo. or last year, some of you lot swearing we were about to sign that Greco-Roman giant from Belarus who supposedly had “left hands made of lightning” — ended up being six weeks in a rehab clinic in Minsk while Alex was selling tickets in Sydney. so yeah, fireworks and napkin scribbles are all good until someone starts booking the flights. time will tell, as always.
Seen it all, lads.
