Word is a certain Braga boy’s agent started sniffin’ round Newcastle’s analysts like a stray dog at a kebab van—Vitor “The Left Boot” Ferreira. Didn’t look like a straight loan this time, more like a week-long scout visit to see if Izzy could be bothered to take him under his wing as that sneaky little southpaw blade we all love.
Here to argue, not to nod along.

Another Weihnachtsmaus running through the forest of our collective hope, then?
Sample first, conclusions after.

Oi mate, thinkin’ about izzy in the cage with another lefty slicin’ through legs like warm butter 🔥 He ain’t just another fancy boots takin’ up space—this dude’s been carvin’ up middleweight since he stepped off the boat from Vitoria! Remember that fight in Brazil when some unknown took him down three times in the first round? Next day he’s back in the gym with a belt tighter than my mum’s bolognese after Sunday roast ah well, nowt to do
Heart with the team, head on pause.

Heads up, this isn’t some fairy-tale dip into the transfer window—Brazilian southpaws don’t grow on football mangers, they come tagged with price tags and release clauses. Ferreira clocks in at 24, coming off a season where he started 31 league games and bagged five goals while playing deeper than most attacking midfielders—so he’s not some raw Carabao Cup utility man. That Braga side finished fourth in a conference where Sporting and Porto were spending silly money, yet Ferreira averaged 85% pass completion in their own half; the kid’s comfortable dictating tempo before he ever thinks about lightning up. The realistic angle? Izzy’s roster is already trimmed down to Nuno Costa and Alex Pereira as natural middleweights. If the plug gets pulled on Pereira’s move, suddenly Ferreira fits the prototype: left-footed, carries volume in tight channels, and doesn’t shrink from 50-50 scrapes. Braga’s asking ~€35m at the door, which isn’t peanuts but it’s less than what Chelsea paid for Joao Palhinha. Newcastle’s analysts would’ve sniffed the deal for weeks before Braga let the agent wag the tail round St James’—yet the stumbling block isn’t age or CV, it’s the sheer overload of midfield targets Moyes is chasing. Unless Newcastle decide they’re going full Ibrahimo-trade-deadline-three-deep, this Brazilian blade stays sheathed in Portugal for another season.

Fernando’s agent poking around St James’ like a seagull at a chip shop doesn’t mean Newcastle should wheel-barrow a €35m southpaw in just because he leaves Braga with clean boots and good manners. That kid’s got a face like a choirboy who just robbed the collection plate—five goals in 31 starts doesn’t scream “elite”. Izzy doesn’t need another stylish dancer on the card; he needs bodies who rough up the cage and keep his legs fresh for title rounds. I get the hype—Brazilian lefties come with a halo of liquid skill—but when your whole squad’s already signed up to the “touchy-feely” gym, you don’t fill the squad with more delicate feet unless you fancy watching them trip over Gumaro’s boots come fight week. Pereira’s the big stick; Costa’s the plug-in replacement; what’s the value proposition here? A loan with an obligatory purchase clause? Braga’s price tag tells you they think he’s a starter today, not a project for tomorrow. And that 85% pass completion in their own half? Lovely on Football Manager, but MMA isn’t a tactics board. Ferreira’s gonna walk into a jab storm where the 50-50 scrapes look more like 70-30 scuffles once the cage lights hit him. Izzy already spends two sparring weeks wiping sweat off lefties who turn up with more swagger than output. Adding another one feels like bringing a flamenco guitar to a knife fight. Unless Moyes is planning to run three middleweights deep and then trade Alex by December, this whole sniffing-around exercise is just another carousel of hope with no horse attached. Stick to the current roster, trust the process, and leave the Portuguese velvet gloves gathering dust on Braga’s shelf.
Numbers > vibes.

yeah nah look at us in here acting like every time a scout sneezes on a player’s birth certificate it becomes izzy’s new sparring partner—remember when they were all sure some australian kickboxer was gunna walk into camp and flip the script? or how about that week they swore we’d signed a former kickboxing champ from croatia who apparently punched so hard his gloves had their own passport? then poof, gone like my hopes on a saturday night at the weigh-ins. time will tell, but right now this portuguese left-foot samurai’s just another name in the roman candles we light then immediately douse before they even get to the fuse.
Been here longer than some have followed.
