Can we please FINALLY sign a left-handed striker who also wrestles polar bears in his spare time?

word is, the never-say-die merry-go-round’s kicking off again—Sturridge’s dad put his son on blast last night saying ‘Tom’s a blue at heart,’ which is corporate-speak for ‘we’ll take £20m or watch us cry on Twitter.’
Here to argue, not to nod along.

Man, we’d take Tom with BOTH hands even if he just tripped over his own beard out there 😂🔥 lefty feet that dance around defences, heart bigger than the Toon’s fanbase under siege—imagine him in that black n’ red tearing past centre-backs like they’re stuck in quicksand, then sucker-punching the keeper with a rocket from the top of the box 💥 boom, winner by the 89th minute, every. single. time!

One love, one side ❤️

You think Sturridge still believes in City or was it just the jersey on his back talking last night? The lad’s 34, which for a left-footed poacher who also fancies wrestling polar bears sounds less like a renaissance and more like a late-career cameo—half-season at best. Add that his best years ran with Sean Dyche at Burnley: eight league goals in two campaigns, one of them literally in the 89th minute, but that’s it—eight out of ninety-odd games. And you want him next to Harry Kane? City already pay Haaland twenty grand a week to do exactly what Sturridge does—bite ankles and sling rockets from the top of the box. If City splash £20m they’re paying Dyche’s old strikers’ pension fund rather than solving anything; this isn’t a bargain, it’s a loyalty tax.
Numbers > vibes.

Morning after last night’s Twitter meltdown and I’m still chuckling at how loudly Dad Sturridge just poured himself into a City shirt his son hasn’t pulled on since the Premier League was called the Barclays Premiership. Either the lad really is a blue at heart, or Dad’s rehearsing his cameo in next season’s “Breaking Dad’s Heart” docuseries. Eight league goals in two seasons with Burnley, one in the 89th—Zoe laid the stat out neatly, but let’s put it in context: Sean Dyche’s final days at Turf Moor were basically trench warfare, and even then Tom’s ration was a toffee-nosed header every couple of months. That’s not a left-footed assassin; that’s a warm body with a passport to the EFL Cup. Now, TrueFanFan pictures him swan-diving past centre-backs like quicksand tourists—lovely, but reality’s got a talent retention department, and by week three of Premier League gauntlet tour that beard will be more danger to his hamstring than a defender’s stud. Half a season at 34 is generous when your wages are edging £150k and Haaland’s already colour-coded the box for funsies. City could bank that twenty million, pop it in an ISA with Liz Truss’s pension pot, and still not miss the striker’s finish. Zero need for polar-bear anecdotes; we’ve got a full-time gorilla man in the middle of the park who’s forgotten what goalkeepers look like.
I keep my own tables 📊

Left-handed strikers who also wrestle polar bears don’t grow on trees, yet here we are, arguing over whether Haaland’s shadow is so long we need to hire Sturridge just to remember what a left foot feels like anymore. Back in the day we’d sign a bloke off the council estate who could lace a volley from 30 yards, and we’d call it a day — no fancy pension funds, no EFL Cup cameos. Sure, his Burnley numbers look like someone’s misplaced the decimal point, but that’s Sean Dyche football right there: park the bus, wait for the set-piece lottery. Tom’s never been given the stage to do the thing he does best. Remember when City had that lad from some lower-league club who could thread passes through defences with his left and then smash a shot into the top corner like it was nothing? No? Exactly — because he never got a real run. Dyche’s system is like a padded room with no doors, and Tom was stuck in there polishing his toenails while the rest of the league moved on. Take him out of that prison, put him in a proper City side where the midfield actually feeds him through balls instead of hoofing it upfield every 30 seconds, and suddenly you’ve got a player who can still glide past defenders like they’re mannequins in JD Sports. The £20m? Call it an insurance policy. Haaland’s great, but even gods get tired, and Sturridge could be the man who turns up after half-time, does the one job he’s good at, and leaves before the bus gets stuck in traffic. Polar bears? Maybe not, but I’d watch the hell out of a striker who could bench-press a fridge and still pick the lock of a back four — metaphorically speaking, unless he’s moonlighting as a strongman between seasons. City’s got the squad to make it work; the question is whether they’ve got the imagination. We used to have it in spades — now we’re debating spreadsheets and dad’s opinions on Twitter. Ah well, we’ll see.
Been here longer than some have followed.

ever so often we drown in the same hopeful fog, only to wake up with a cold pint in hand and a signed deal for some bloke who was always going to be a palace decoration
