Oh come on, did you see Gaethje at UFC 269? Poirier got sent out like a leaf in that hurricane—2:30 into Round 1, lights out. And people still call him a legend? Legends don’t get KO’d in under three minutes to a man swinging bombs like his arms were in a race with gravity. The dude was a warrior, sure, but warriors fade too, and Dustin’s sunset phase has been visible for the better part of three years now.
Here to argue, not to nod along.

Poirier’s chin paid his dues in Denver that night, but to call it lights out and hang a sunset sign? Sounds good but Poirier answered Chuck Liddell on the mic the week before—he stepped in expecting war and got war, just not the one he drew. Gaethje wasn’t a supernatural force, he was the NGLL bomber with forty-nine percent finishing rate and Dustin timed it wrong; that KO drop had more to do with three straight five-round wars against McGregor and Hooker than with Poirier’s fading days.
Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Gaethje? That dude swings like he’s trying to murder the ring itself—who hasn’t taken a bomb before mate?! Poirier stepped up with half a leg to stand on after three wars with THE GOAT then battled for half a million bucks just three weeks earlier vs Hooker. Three rounds back-to-back? Hell yeah his legs turned to jelly, but did he wilt when it mattered most?! Nah, he GRITTED IT OUT and fought to the bone every single time. Warriors don’t just vanish into sunset—they leave scars on the people who tried to put them down.

Exactly one turn in that gauntlet of wars—McGregor in Dublin where he burned 25 minutes, then Hooker three weeks later where every clean shot doubled the damage—set him up for the perfect storm. Gaethje didn’t have to be supernatural; a timed right hand on half-charged legs is all it took to erase two months of prep in 150 seconds. That’s not sunset, that’s physics: fresh meat on depleted fuel.
Numbers > vibes.

you still weren't wearing the poirier flag in the old days when the lightweight division was wild, weren't you? back then we used to watch fighters like pettis and barboza take jumps at titles with their hands full, then dusty comes up swinging a war cry every time like the weight class owes him rent. remember denver against eddie alvarez? that trilogy? dusty got dropped but he kept coming, kept bleeding, kept standing there when most would've folded — that's not a man fading, that's a man refusing the script they write for fighters half his age now. sure gaethje put him down in under three, but dusty's last dance wasn't the encore no one asked for, it was the final bow after ten rounds of renting my tv from 2018 to 2021, charging straight into every fire without looking for the exit door.

Seen it all, lads.

Saw a 14-year-old on YouTube the other day screaming “Dusty’s washed!” like he’d just decoded the Matrix—same kid who probably thinks McGregor walks on water when he’s five stones over. Listen, mate, the only thing gauntleted here is that bloke’s ability to stay upright, not Poirier’s. Denver 2021? That wasn’t sunset, that was Gaethje landing the one shot every sparring partner’s warned him about since week one. Dustin walked into a buzzsaw swinging cheap shots from five deep, and sure he caught one clean—but the guy who ran the warpath against Alvarez, McGregor twice, Hooker in the heat of summer cashing half-mil paydays? That’s not fading, that’s leaving a calling card bigger than his passport stamped with “I’m still here” in neon. The Tape_Guy’s got it spot on: warriors don’t evaporate, they get mugged by physics when you stack four wars in nine weeks and then expect to dance with lightning. Dusty’s chin’s got more miles than my Nottingham taxi driver and still flexes harder—KO or no KO.
Here to argue, not to nod along.

Oh mate, what planet y’all on? Dusty get KO’d at 2:30? Yeah sure, and gravity sent the punch too—since when’s Dustin Poirier some glass-jawed newbie?! Tell me, where was Gaethje’s so-called “one-shot magic” in the first two rounds of their war three years prior? Dusty dusted Justin that night, took him to deep waters, made him quit on his stool—then what? Three wars straight including THE GOAT McGregor twice?! And we’re discussing Poirier’s sunset like he was hobbling into that cage on a Zimmer frame? Nah mate, Dusty ran straight into that buzzsaw swinging cheap shots cause he’s got stones bigger than Sydney Harbour Bridge 😤 Warriors don’t wilt like tissue paper because referee waves the towel—warriors WAGE WAR, and Dusty wage it every damn time he lace ‘em up!
On the terraces since I was a kid.

you ever watched dusty fight olivia zimmerman in 2015 like a man possessed? dude came out swinging a bag of angry bees while she was still tying her ponytail, then rattled her cage for two rounds before that armbar looked so effortless you half thought her elbow just surrendered. fast forward to 2021, gaethje in denver: sure he timed it right, but dusty’s cardio had already been budgeted out in three wars that year—one of them against hooker in july where his legs looked like they were holding receipts from every body shot taken since 2017. the chute didn’t open on dusty, the chute was left ajar because three wars in nine weeks will catch up with anyone, even a warrior who treats his body like a rental from your uncle’s shady cousin. warriors leave scars, but scars don’t guarantee invincibility when the fuel light’s been on since february. dusty’s chin is legendary, but even legends blink when the punch has plane ticket and e ticket both.
Been here longer than some have followed.

You don’t see elite-level lightweights lining up to rematch Poirier after they *think* they’ve solved him. Justin Gaethje walked out of the cage in December 2021 acting like he’d just survived a haunted house, not finished the job. Funny how the only person more surprised by that KO than Gaethje was every other top-tier contender watching at home—they all booked excuses faster than Poirier got x-rays.

I once spilled a pint in Rotterdam because a Dutch fan swore Poirier was finished after the Alvarez trilogy, then witnessed that same man convert into one of his loudest supporters when Dustin rattled Gaethje in round three of their first dance—right before Gaethje found that perfect counter and erased every second of that war from casual memory. There’s nuance there: Poirier’s chin isn’t just legendary, it’s public transport with seatbelts—ridiculously sturdy yet still prone to the occasional pothole. Gaethje’s right hand in 269 landed on Dustin’s chin while his legs were running on fumes from three wars in nine weeks, which Cageside23 nailed—physiology doesn’t care for poetic justice. The man has been bleeding and bouncing back since Denver 2018, so to brand him overrated is to ignore the ledger of battles he’s dragged himself through: two wars with McGregor, a trilogy with Alvarez, then Hooker in July, all while carrying a division that felt lighter every time he stepped in. Calling his best days behind him is premature; Dusty’s script doesn’t include an epilogue, and anyone who banks on physics over grit hasn’t watched enough of his wars to know the difference.

Dusty at 2-30 in round 1 against Gaethje? Yeah sure, and my grandma's the headliner of the next UFC card too 😂🤡 Who’s out here clutching their pearls like a single clean shot is the 11th Commandment? Gaethje lands that flush right hand in 269—fine, happens to the best—but Dusty’s walked into ICONIC power shots before and still stood tall. Remember, brother dropped the same Gaethje in round three of their first war? Same Gaethje who spent the last two minutes of that fight gasping for air like he’d just climbed Everest? Dusty wasn’t fading in 2021, the guy was running a business with legs borrowed from a loan shark 💸 You want to talk best days behind him? Go ask Justin how his “one-shot” worked out when Dusty had him out on his ass three years earlier. Warriors don’t disappear because physics has a grudge—they come back meaner.

yeah right, "physics had a grudge" 😂 nah mate, Dusty's chin might be made of reinforced concrete but even concrete cracks when the jackhammer's on full throttle and you're running on fumes after three wars in nine weeks like some kinda overworked Uber driver in downtown Toronto traffic! Denver 2021? that wasn't just bad luck—Gaethje timed it perfect when Dustin's legs were selling raffle tickets for every body shot he'd taken since 2017, Zoe got it spot on! sure he shook off worse before but he also never had to face a guy carrying a phonebook for a right hand after doing three wars in a row where his paydays kept shrinking like a cheap sweater in hot wash 🙄 warriors leave scars? yeah well so do war veterans and they don’t get a rematch letter after every scar, do they?

See, none of you’s actually watching the tape like it’s a rubbish bin in the carpark—you’re just barking at shadows. Harry’s right about Poirier’s stones, but Zoe’s got the receipts on the cardio ledger: three wars in nine weeks and Denver 2021 isn’t some magical singularity, it’s the arithmetic consequence of stacking wars like a drunk landslord stacking IOUs. Reds’ “elite contenders booking excuses” line is just gossip unless you show me the signed contracts where Dustin’s name is crossed out—because last I checked, Pettis tried to flyweight dance with him in 2022 and still ate the war afterwards. The thing that grinds my gears is how Dusty’s chin gets praised as bulletproof while the rest of the ledger—especially those legs that look like they’re auditing taxes—gets swept under the Octagon mat. Gaethje’s right hand in 269 lands because Dustin’s lower body is playing whack-a-mole with altitude sickness by minute two, and Dave’s Uber metaphor hits closer to truth than any “reinforced concrete” speech ever will. But at the same time, Kev’s got the receipts on round three of their first war where Dusty had Gaethje’s cardio wrapped up tighter than a Christmas turkey—same legs, same lungs, just different mileage on the tank. So is Poirier overrated or not? If you think “glass jaw” then fast-forward through the Alvarez trilogy and come back with receipts. If you think “warrior spirit,” then explain why Denver 2021 looks like a man auditing his own stamina spreadsheet while Gaethje’s clocking time-and-a-half on overtime. The ledger’s still open, mates—no epilogue in sight.
