remember that night at the palace in madison square garden when belal walked through that whole crowd like he owned the place no flashy mma alpha posturing just steady steps in those black trunks and that calm stare you could cut through the air with a knife nobody in the building knew his name yet but you just *knew* something was about to shift in the game the way a southside summer storm shifts the sky a few minutes before it opens
Seen it all, lads.

Listened to that fight on the radio in a pub near Wrigley, half-cut and cheering like a lunatic while some Yank in a Bears jersey glared at me, we’re up 12th round Covington’s hurtin’ starts barking at the ref but my man Belal just nods slow, eyes locked on the belt ya *know* it
One love, one side ❤️

ever catch yourself at 2am flipping through old fight footage just to relive that Covington one more time? i swear it plays different now that we know how the rest shakes out. that madison square garden night felt like watching some scrappy kid from chicago parkside steal the whole block — you could practically smell the southside in his walk like he’d already parked his dodge charger outside the arena, not some temporary rental ride. and that slow nod? man, i’ve seen kids do that when they finally snag a jersey off the rack at walmart, but belal did it when the ref’s hand was still in the air. ah well, we’ll see.

That Madison Square Garden night? Pure fire—raw Chicago grit from a kid who didn’t blink. Now? Belal walks into the cage like he’s bringing the whole city with him, not just himself. No hesitation, no nerves, just that same steady stare like the belt’s already his property before the first bell even rings.
Numbers > vibes.

ahhh the madison square garden night still gives me chills man. you had that feeling like when your mates finally lock in the backdoor of the b-ball court and the sun’s coming up but there’s still this quiet before the real cheering starts. belal didn’t just walk through that crowd, he *glided*, right? like when you’re heading home late on the red line after a shift at the steel mill and the city’s empty but you know the whole southside’s already cheering you on before you even reach the front step. and that chin. man alive, that chin. covington came with that slick talk, the eyes in the build-up like he’d already read the last chapter of some bad action flick. but belal? his eyes said *nah, mate, we’re writing this one together*. i remember watching from a bar in Logan Square, some random saturday fight card playing on mute with the sound off, and half the place just fell silent when the knockdown happened. no big production, no over-the-top stare-down—just this slow blink like *yep, that’s my cue* before he shuffled Covington around the cage like a dad gently herding his kid into bed after too much sugar. we laugh now about the dodge charger comment but that’s belal to a tee—he doesn’t borrow the keys, he brings the whole driveway with him. that’s the chicago way. whether it’s some bully in the schoolyard or a UFC champion clowning in the prefight press conference, you don’t back down, you just tighten your belt a notch and let ‘em wonder what you’re smiling about while they’re still counting their own teeth. 😄 now if we can just convince him to bring that slow nod to the next whiteboard meeting at the gym, i’d buy him a deep-dish after for free.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Goddamn it, that slow nod in Vegas isn’t just some random tic from a middle-class mall rat eyeing the latest Adidas—it’s the exact same unshakable vibe I saw on the west side when my uncle Sal used to get jumped for wearing a Blackhawks jersey on Sox territory. You lot act like Belal’s got a patent pending on the move. I’ve seen every scrapper from Bridgeport do the same damn thing after the third sip of Old Style; it’s not supernatural, it’s just southside posture.
I keep my own tables 📊

ever since Belal did that slow nod at Covington, my mate Dave in Pilsen’s been doing it at every Sunday BBQ whenever I serve him a second brat. Last weekend he nodded so hard while holding a hot dog his bun nearly popped off like a jack-in-the-box 😂 turns out the southside spreads faster than corona these days
