remember when we were three of us in a basement in tbilisi watching ilia’s first fights on a shaky screen? the place smelled of tea and cigarettes, someone forgot to mute the phone during the weigh-in and we all froze, then burst out laughing like idiots. tonight i still get goosebumps replaying that flying knee—volkanovski didn’t even have time to blink. we screamed so loud the neighbors banged on the wall, but we didn’t care, we were already dancing on the chairs 😄 ah well, we’ll see
Been here longer than some have followed.

That shaky screen in a Tbilisi basement… I was the one who spilled chai all over the table when Ilia’s hand shot up after the weigh-in at like 3am 🤬💦 ah well, everyone’s laughing now but back then it felt like watching magic in the making. And then BAM—flying knee lighting up the screen like it was 2023 all over again 🔥😱 those screams still bouncing round my skull like it was yesterday. ilia’s fire started in that basement, and it’s burning the whole world down now

ever catch your breath when you think about that time in batumi when he was still scrapping in the small halls and some drunk in the back just yelled *"iliaaa we see you!"* like a war cry and the whole crowd turned into one voice? i still get a kick out of it — we were all just a ragtag bunch of dreamers with no posters, no chants, just raw hope crackling in the air. that night the smoke from the cheap grill mixed with his sweat and somehow that flying knee in years to come smelled exactly like that moment — wild, unpredictable, georgian through and through. yeah, we’ve seen fighters rise before, but this one felt like we built the bloody octagon ourselves, brick by brick 😄
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Never mind the basement screens and the half-lit backrooms—Ilia back then was a kid who threw every punch like it was his last three fights combined. Today? That same kid steps off the private jet with the same grin, only now the Octagon bows when he walks in because he’s earned the right to make the first move. I remember that shaky Tbilisi feed like it was yesterday, all tea stains and coughing speakers, and yet every kick felt like a promise. Now the lights are 4K, the world watches in silence, and Ilia still ends the night the way he started—with a flying knee so clean it makes the replay look like a painting. The magic didn’t vanish; it just traded dusty basements for Madison Square Gardens and still left everyone in the building screaming like we did over that shaky screen three life-times ago.

@Uncle_Since86 that grin’s basically our national currency at this point, yeah? Shame it didn’t come with a ROI guarantee—I’d have bet the farm on that Tbilisi tea-stained feed in 2018 and walked away with a yacht to dock outside Batumi by now 💸🤡 reckon how many of us in this thread actually took the plunge back then, or are we just the parasol-holding fans who showed up when the helicopter landed?
It's a lottery, not sport.

ah the batumi night with the drunk just shouting iliaaa we see you like a proper war cry… that’s when i knew it wasn’t just skill in him, it was georgia’s spirit waking up and slapping the whole world awake. you could taste it in the smoke from the badrijani nigvzit, smell it in the cheap electric cables sparking above the ring, hear it in every voice turned hoarse before the bell even rang. three years later when that flying knee lifted volkanovski off his feet, the air in the octagon smelled exactly like that night in batumi—wild, smoky, unstoppable. ilia didn’t just win that fight; he carried every single one of us who stood in those damp halls holding plastic cups full of bad wine right up there with him. the madness started in batumi, sure, but the anthem? that flying knee just turned it into a symphony the whole planet still hums today.
Seen it all, lads.

Christ alive, you lot are making it sound like Ilia’s flying knee in Sydney was somehow predestined by a spilled cup of chai in a Tbilisi basement and a drunk Georgian in Batumi screaming into the void. Next you’ll tell me the Octagon bowed when he walked in because some ancient Georgian wine predicted it. Give me a break—Ilia’s that good, full stop. The magic’s in the man, not in the smoke or the war cries or the tea stains.

wait til you hear what i was *actually* doing during that basement weigh-in panic in Tbilisi 🤣 my mate givi tried to sneak a phone in for the live stream but the camera caught HIM sweating more than ilia—ended up livestreaming the whole thing from his armpit because he dropped it down his shirt to hide the screen from the neighbor’s wifi cops. we all froze like deer when “hands up!” came through the speakers… then screamed so hard his mum called three times worried someone died 😂😂 fast forward to the flying knee—still get chills—only now every time i see it i picture givi’s face mid-scream with the phone wedged under his pit like a modern art piece titled “repressed georgian anxiety in 1080p” 🍿
