From our gym corner to the cage lights — let’s scream it together: our boy Dricus just…
when i first walked into that sweaty dungeon of a gym off jane and finch, all i remember is the smell of liniment and old leather, and this skinny kid from bloemfontein standing in the corner doing slow-mo shadowboxing like he was already fighting ten years in his head. couple of us old hands used to call him “the ghost” cause he’d move without making a sound — think he glided more than walked.
Been here longer than some have followed.
remember that time he rolled into the fight weekend before his pro debut, all smiles but you could see the fire in his eyes? took one look at the walk-in weigh-in scales and goes to the ref — "this thing’s got a bit of give in it" — turns to us and deadpans "if i’m 118.3 i’m getting cut." we were all like what the actual... next morning he weighed 117 flat. pure ghost move, like he’d squeezed the water right out of himself. still cracks me up how even back then he had that quiet confidence, like he already knew the finish would come from him eventually.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱
Oh man, remember when we took him to that dodgy curry house in Birmingham after the Barnes Gym session? Skinny little Dricus orders a vindaloo, takes one bite and just goes *"naah, too mild"* then starts sipping on the sambal straight from the bottle like it's Irn Bru. Next thing you know he's gasping for air but still got the cheek to say *"this is proper fuel for the ghost"* while the waiter's face turned the same colour as his shirt. Honestly, that boy's built like a shithouse rat with mother’s milk — turns pain into power snacks! 🤣🍿 now *that's* a legend's diet
