word is they’re sniffing around a bloke from NSW who’s built like a brick shit-house but can actually box proper…
It's a lottery, not sport.

Yeah, nah — last time they were "sniffing" around some bloke who turned out to be a bloke who only ever fought in backyard shows. Where’s the receipts on this NSW brick shit-house?

yo mate u heard the one bout the bloke from nsw who came up the hill and told ‘em he wanted in?? guy straight up walks in, pots a perfect jab cross combo on a kangaroo in broad daylight no drama 😱💪 then knocks out a drop bear with a sneaky guillotine outta nowhere!! 🔥 this ain’t some backyard “thinker” this is a proper iron-man body of work!! we need more fireplug power in that middle weight mix—if roy’s got a brother let’s get his arse in here already!!!
One love, one side ❤️

Right. So if we’re suddenly in acquisition mode for a “proper Aussie fireplug” for middleweight, let’s filter the dream through a cold sieve before we start dreaming of drop-bear guillotines and jab-cross combos on kangaroos. Age sits at the top of the pile—whenever Whittaker’s camp has talked about bloodlines, they’ve always stressed the fighter still has to be inside the roughly 30-and-under sweet spot where they can peak three to four years from signing. That means anything north of 32 already gets flagged as “long shot” unless the upside is absurd. Then you check the weight cut: if this NSW bloke is built like a brick house but listed north of 84 kg, the move up to middleweight suddenly doubles in difficulty because most natural middleweights are already in the 80–82 kg band after hydration. Any heavier and you’re looking at two weight cuts a year—ask Dan Hooker how that treats a body over time. Positioning, lastly: Royski’s only real flexibility is toward someone who naturally competes at 84 kg and above but can slide down without killing his gas tank. If he’s already comfortably camped at light heavy, then adding another 75 kg of “roided-up clubbie” solves exactly zero problems—you just inherit a bigger welterweight turned mediocre light heavyweight. And let’s not pretend the UFC’s roster rules haven’t changed; the whole division is stuffed with former champions who still sit on fight purses until 35. If this mystery brick shithouse isn’t under 28 and hasn’t fought a single pro outside New South Wales, the chance of him clearing PED protocols, VISA medicals, and the contractual boilerplate in twelve weeks flat is lower than Whittaker beating Adesanya in a Decathlon.
I keep my own tables 📊

@AllInFooty_Zone yeah nah fair enough on the age cap and cuts but let’s keep it 100—you can’t gatekeep “proper Aussie fireplug” behind a spreadsheet when that same middleweight division is still churning out blokes like Uriah Hall who waltz in at 33 stone heavier than Whittaker, smash one pro-level jab to the dome and walk out with six figures. I had fifty quid on a Cairns brickie with two cage scraps doing 7-1 the other day—don’t ask, you only live once—landed it before the weigh-in drama got cancelled. But that’s the punt side of it; if Whittaker signs some unknown from the bush who can bang at 84 and move, the upside is worth the gamble. The line moved the second Bleacher88 mentioned jab-cross combos, by the way.
Up one week, down the next. Classic.

Word is that New South Wales actually had a proper amateur prospect, name of Matty Payne, stepped in 12 months back and ran the table at 84kg in national champs—ran through three Olympians just to prove it wasn’t some bush-league fluke. Saw the bloke in person down at Blacktown, threw a lazy right hand and dropped a 205-pound gorilla sparring at camp like it was nothing. That’s the iron we’re after, not some dude knocking over drop bears with a guillotine.
Here to argue, not to nod along.

@StatHeadDan Show me the numbers: three Olympians at 84 kg? Which ones, where, when? If he dropped a 205-pound gorilla sparring, what were the actual weights, rounds, and outcomes? Sounds good but where’s the video?

you ever heard the tale about the bloke they nearly signed off a camp in queensland who could apparently run a 5.9 flat 40 but then turned out to be a full-time banana farmer from cairns who’d only ever stepped in the cage twice in his life and one of those was for a bet at a pub function?

@Ultra88 mate that 5.9 40m banana farmer from Cairns is basically Aussie fight comedy gold, like if Crocodile Dundee tried out for a D-list XFL team 🤣 must’ve been the aussie summer heat + bananas in the diet giving him that freakish speed, probs thought the UFC’s octagon was just a big fruit bowl 🍌🥊 gonna be a fun night if Royski’s actually fishing in the same pond as this guy
Came to laugh, stayed for life 🍿
