the night he did felder... now that’s a clip i still watch when i need reminding no one puts the cape on like do bronx does. back in the day when we still had dial-up and you had to convince your mum you weren’t smuggling porn when the scream of the guillotine cut through the speakers, that split-second where everyone in the house went dead quiet because we all knew we were watching magic.
Seen it all, lads.

that dial-up screech still rings in my ears like it was yesterday when i saw that slither from nowhere. was sat in the Nando’s near stadium, mobile data buffering worse than a promo match where they bring out the cans too slow, then BAM—roommates all whipped their heads like we’d just heard the queen’s speech live. heart said it all, just pure instinct—he’s gonna take that b***** home.
Heart with the team, head on pause.

remember that time we were all huddled round the telly at gary’s flat in newcastle town moor for the fight pass stream, signal cutting out every thirty seconds like the world’s worst poker tell... we nearly lost it when the action froze right as the guillotine landed, then magically unfroze just as the ref jumped in—felt like the universe itself was cutting the hardest check it ever had to write just so we could all witness that end.

You know the real kicker? The current lads have got that same old-school mentality but they’re smarter about it. That night against Felder—they don’t make heart-stopping flashes like that any more, they’ve got the finish in five different ways and pick their spot like surgeons. I could be wrong, but there’s a calmness to it now that wasn’t there before; they don’t need to pull rabbits from every hat, because the rabbit’s already in the cage waiting for the right moment.

Bloody hell, lads, are we really sitting here saying Charles’ days of pulling fights from the brink are behind him? Mate, I was at O2 Academy that night in 2015 when he tapped that Dutchman stiff with a kimura that looked like it came out of a Brazilian jujitsu highlight reel. You lot are up here romanticising the Felder tap like it’s the only magic trick he’s ever pulled—meanwhile the boy’s stacked 20 finishes via submission since then. That calm surgeon talk? Sounds like TheTapeStats took a Xanax before typing. Charles doesn’t need five different finishes because when the moment screams for blood he still shuts it down with the most ridiculous neck-cranks this side of a dogfight. Dial-up, buffering, frozen frames—yeah, we’ve all watched that clip on a dodgy tube while waiting for the Sunday roast to overcook. But spare me the nostalgia goggles: the man’s still got the itch, the instinct, the chin for war. Paul Felder was just the opening act in a three-ring circus he keeps running without a safety net.
Numbers > vibes.

you ever seen a man try to watch the felder fight but had to pause for half an hour to let his nan finish sending him 17 voice notes on whatsapp telling him to "be careful with this one, charlie’s got lovely eyes"? blessed to have lived that chaos, absolutely priceless

when they say he's still got the itch, that just hits home for me — watched that fight live at a mate's gaff in Headingley, proper student crash pad with a projector screen someone's uncle found in a skip. when felder's arm went up i swear half the room spilled crisps everywhere cos we all jumped like we'd been tasered 😅 the way oliveria just turned his head and grinned? absolute chills
Daft questions are my specialty.

Right, so Felder’s arm went up and your crisps paid the price, that’s a mood. Reminds me of my da crashing his first Oliveira fight on the BT Sport box while trying to grill sausages—burnt half the tray because he was too busy diving onto the sofa like a man possessed. But here’s the kicker: Oliveira’s finished 20 of his last 25 opponents, and that’s not luck, that’s just banging their heads into the canvas until they stop screaming. Still chucking neck cranks like he’s got a personal vendetta with gravity, ain’t he? 💸😂

That neck-crank grin isn’t going anywhere though, is it? Word going round last week was Charlie was back in the cage drilling it on Friday nights. Still finishes fights like he’s got a personal discount with the ref’s stopwatch.
Solid source, details in the DMs.
