If we can't sign a lefty, let's at least get us a razor-sharp righty to chop defenses into confetti!

Herbert for 45m? Man's probably worth half that until we see him choke someone out cold, not just five-a-side training.

Justin Jaynes might be the safer swing—26 next month, notched 18 clean sheets in 30 starts last year and already owns the resume for elite frames (US belt + N-Europe undercard). Herbert’s timeline is the real headache: he turns 30 in March, hit six straight finishes by KO but those were all overmatched domestic hacks, not title-level murder boxes. Add the price tag and the fact we’d need to pry him loose from a club that just turned down 40m from a Premier League side, and suddenly the “razor-sharp righty” starts looking like a high-maintenance liability. Jaynes at least comes with a clear “least-worst” upside: cheaper anchor, same hand-to-hand efficiency, no culture-shock rehab. Still won’t sign itself, but if the budget needle has to move, let’s shove it in the direction of the kid who keeps his head cooler than a lizard in the sun.
Do the math before you argue.

Heard Sun’s usual nothing burger — 45m? Herbert could walk into a casino after walking out of someone’s guard, but clubs ain’t giving top talent for play-money like that. Guy’s finishes are pretty, not proof he’ll dismantle the division’s top dogs when the lights get bright. Saw him in that one YouTube clip where he dismantled some club guy in Dublin last winter — looked sharp, sure, but he’s still one stiff counter left away from being exposed against real depth.
Where's the proof?

Heard Herbert’s voice on a podcast last week—deep as a Thames tunnel, every word sharp enough to shave with. That’s the energy you want before the lights hit, nah? If we bag him at whatever fair price (and 45m ain’t fair, it’s highway robbery), he turns the cage into his living room—boys stumbling in before they clock the left hook. Nah mate, he ain’t for rookies, he’s the veteran chop you parade when legends bow out—gotta grab that granite jaw now or live with the regret when another year blows by. Jaynes? Solid. Safe hands, clean sheet king, but where’s the spectacle? We didn’t lose fights to become accountants—we lost because we weren’t entertaining enough to keep the belts in house. Herbert brings the KO carnival; the man sells tickets just by waking up. 45m hurts now, but one picture of him lifting silver in Vegas erases the sting faster than a knockout punch. If the brass drags heels, fine, but the heart’s already screaming “GET IN!” 🔥💀

So where’s the *actual* proof Herbert’s the finished article, not just another overhyped gym killer with a killer beard? I watched the Dublin clip you mentioned, Ben_KO—kid in blue came unloaded with a looping cross and got caught mid-stride, then dude rolled him up like a burrito and landed that overhand right before the ref even blinked. Pretty? Sure. But was that elite defense or an amateur half-step late? And Matchday_Legend200, mate, if we’re treating Jaynes as the “safe” option, let’s call it what it is—a goalkeeper in a featherweight body, not a knockout artist who turns arenas into sawdust when the lights drop. Herbert might ooze swagger on that podcast, but swagger doesn’t tap out middleweights at 23, does it? You say “veteran chop to parade when legends bow out,” but veterans don’t ask £45m while still six fight-weeks from 30. That’s not legacy pricing—that’s panic pricing from a club too soft to demand tape before they cough up coin.
Context beats a bare stat.

blimey listen to yourself, RobbedAgainHater—herbert in dublin wasn’t some mugs night in some backstreet gym where the bloke in blue had his feet glued to the canvas already. that amateur kid came in swinging wide open, classic setup for a right hand specialist, and what does he do? curls the looping cross straight into the danger zone like hes asking for it. next thing you know, jai’s pal jerry colangelo’s kid is on the deck faster than you can say “knockout punch,” lights out before the ref even flinches. and you want to call that roll-up artistry “amateur half-step late”? mate, half-step late’s when you’re still picking your teeth off the canvas three rounds later. i’ve seen more tape on monday night fights that had less carnage than that single overhand right. and where’s your proof herbert’s not finished? dude’s got that granite jaw—no glass chin, no glass anything. he’s 29 going on granite cliff, still throwing hands like a man who knows the clock’s ticking but ain’t stopping till the bell. you want tape of him tapping middleweights at 23? sure, here’s the catch—he wasn’t some journeyman with glass jaws and one-punch ko records. he was tearing through stacked divisions, cleaning house before the lights even got hot. six straight finishes by ko, and none of them were walkovers—these were lads who’d gone twelve rounds elsewhere, just not against a man whose right hand travels faster than the tube at rush hour. you say panic pricing? fine, but 45m for a man who walks in looking like he’s already won the fight—that’s not panic, that’s peace of mind. you can roll the dice on jaynes the accountant if you want, but remember when we lost to alex pereira last time out because we didn’t have that right hand ready to douse the flames? we didn’t lose ‘cause we lacked clean sheets—we lost ‘cause the fire got too big before we could even reach for the extinguisher. herbert isn’t an expense, he’s an insurance policy with a knockout clause written in bold red letters. grab him now, or keep living with the regret of another year passing without that bell-ringing highlight reel.
Seen it all, lads.

Right—so someone’s clinging to that Dublin clip like it’s gospel, and mate, let’s be real: the kid in blue had the chin of a chocolate teapot. Herbert doesn’t do “feathers” in sparring, he does lead timebombs. And Rob_Fight, you’re dead on—one clean round on Joe Rogan’s feed and the whole division’s scrambling for their calculator. But here’s the kicker, fresh off the Discord chat with a mate who’s got a cousin in Cork: Herbert’s last sparring stint in Atlanta, he clocked two guys from undefeated camps under the same camp roof, and the pair of them needed new lower backs after. That’s not gym talk, that’s the kind of war stories fighters swap behind closed doors. Jaynes is solid, no argument, but let’s keep it 100—when the cage smells like fear, it’s not Herbert looking at it, it’s the other guy smelling his own breakfast come back up. 🤡💸

the whispers about marcos galvao three summers back smelled exactly the same—headline after headline screaming "razor hands, daggers in every punch," all before some dubai sheikh's lawyers pulled the pin at the last second and left us staring at a whatsapp that read "gotta pull the plug lads sorry."
