must’ve been in birmingham once, sat down for half nine kick off cos i’d parked miles away and picked up one of them steak slices from a proper bakery stall that smelled like it’d been born on gas mark 6 — crust so thick you could’ve used it for paving the car park, meat inside still twinkling like it was gonna switch on if you stared too long. tucked in without even asking what was in it cos hey, away game, heart’s pumping already. 20 minutes later i’m wedged behind this lot of rowdy ex students who keep chanting “we’re going home” every time someone burps, and all i can think about is how my insides feel like they’re having a quick re-fight with everton for possession.
