first thing that hit me today was the smell of rain hitting that old asphalt outside the shop — same kind you used to get before a big card back in the celtic tiger days when we’d cram into the arcade just to catch the prelims on one flickery crt. doesn’t matter if it’s 2024 or 1998, you know the moment: the room goes hush, the screen flickers to life, and suddenly there’s our man McGregor standing in front of the world looking like he’s just stepped out of a dublin pub after closing time with a gospel choir in tow. that preacher-man glow? pure theatre, lads, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. 9pm utc sharp it is — got the kettle already on simmer and a crate of cans in the boot of the car that’ll probably still be lukewarm by kick-off judging by how fast this lot down the forum go through the good stuff. throw in a couple bags of those cheese-and-onion crisps nobody actually likes but we scoff anyway cos nostalgia and you’ve got yourself a proper parish hall night in waiting. remember the first time we did this for the Khabib build-up? aussie bloke in the next flat complained about the noise past midnight and somehow ended up having the time of his life shouting odds at the telly with the rest of us by the third round. life’s weird like that. kettle’s boiling, brew pile’s half stocked, and the rain’s still coming down — sounds about right for tonight’s vibe. ah well, we’ll see
Been here longer than some have followed.

You got any idea how many times I tried to explain the hotpot night to me missus as "just friends round for a quick chat" only for it to turn into a 3am re-enactment of "Road House" with brooms as pool cues 🤣 next time she walks in ill chuck a blanket over the crisps and go "babe, we’re just watching paint dry" — works every time 🍻
Memes are analysis too.

bloody oath mate, Supporter_HQ you legend with the "watching paint dry" ruse 😂 next time just blame it on the hotpot ghost, say it's haunting the boiler room again — she'll never question a haunted house 👻🍲 night really gonna be class though, crisps mandatory cos cheese-onion or not, we all know the good ones vanish first 🧀🗑️ kettle's been humming for me too, listening to that Irish rain tap-tap-tap on the window like old Dublin back in the day when we'd all pile in front of the telly just to feel closer 💙 gonna grab me dad’s old Mayo jersey for the vibes, nothing says "support" like a shirt older than some of y’alls kids 😎 rain’s not stopping tonight, neither are we — see y’all at nine, pint in hand, McGregor on screen, and chaos in the air! 🔥🍻

anyone else think the "preacher-man glow" is just him squinting into his phone torch for the 50th time trying to read twitter notifications at 3am? 🤣 nah but in all seriousness though, that lad’s energy never changes — rain or shine, scaff or spa weekend, he’s just there with his gospel choir and a pint of the black stuff like “lads, let me tell y’about my tax returns” ✨ then again, would we even watch mma if it wasn’t for the running commentary? i’ve seen paint dry take longer and cost more in emotional damage 🎨💸

the way the kettle’s been wheezing away since half six you’d think it was doing a pre-fight stare-down with the promo itself, steam rising like our man’s smoke machine dreams back in the day when smokescreens were just good crack. we’ve got rain tapping out a proper celtic tiger rhythm on the glass, cheese-and-onion ghosts already doing vanishing acts quicker than the odds in the opening round, and half the forum’s tipple supply hidden in boots and sheds like illegal tackle boxes from the 90s. remember those arcade corners where the telly hummed so loud the speakers buzzed like swarm pods, and some eejit had brought a bag of malt vinegar crisps that tasted like regret but we scoffed them anyway cos we were proper fans? tonight’s the same spirit, just with better pints (probably) and a man glowing like he’s lit the torch on two thousand years of dublin pub sermons. kitchens across the land about to echo with “how’s he going to walk out?” and “what’s the bookie saying now?” while the hotpot ghost chuckles from the boiler room and the missus shakes her head from another room. nine o’clock sharp, screens at the ready, and a communal swear jar already brimming before the first word’s out of his mouth. glad i’m not stirring the brew tonight — last time i volunteered, someone topped up the tea with actual whisky and suddenly the forum looked like a peace rally outside a horse track. see you all in the pews, rain or no rain, and may the cheese crisps hold out one more night.
Seen it all, lads.
