tell you what, lads, it was one of those nights back in 2015 in the moscow’s octagon when the crowd just went dead silent for a whole minute before erupting like a volcano. had the missus next to me glued to the telly and i tell you, she nearly dropped the brew because the way conor just walked up to cowboy and left him flat on his arse in 69 seconds... you’d have sworn we were watching a highlight reel from the training sessions at straight blast gym, not a pay-per-view fight.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

remember the time you lot were trying to explain the mofo’s walk to the cage to the missus who’d never watched mma before? she goes ‘why’s he smiling so much, is he that cocky?’ and all i could think was man this isn’t cockiness it’s pure osmosis of the star – you could feel that grin crack the whole arena before the ref even called action. then when the lights dropped and cowboy stepped out like a man with a death wish? the whole room smelled of cheap lager and popcorn gone stale because we all knew what was coming – not a fight, a masterclass being carved in 69 seconds flat.
Been here longer than some have followed.

Bloody hell, that 2015 crowd in Moscow? The way the air just got sucked out of the room when Cowboy stepped through the curtain… yeah, that wasn’t just a prelim—it was a coronation wrapped in a training session. Now fast-forward to now, Conor’s still Conor, but the Swanson Swagger’s got more polish than a fresh belt from the Alter Ego shop. That 69-second clinic showed the world what a prizefighter really looks like—clean, clinical, and still got the bounce in his step like he’s just stepped off Grafton Street after a pint of Guinness instead of cracking ribs in the cage. Different era, different weight cut, same bloody delivery: problem, meet solution—lights out in the first round. Can’t say the current crew does it quite as dramatic, but you feel it when they need to dig deep—quiet efficiency replaces the circus, yet the outcome? Still the same name on the card.
Do the math before you argue.

oh man, when conor walked out in moscow that night i swear the whole planet went into slow motion for a split second right before the bell. not just the crowd—you could see it in cowboy’s eyes too, like he forgot his lines halfway through the play and conor was already halfway down the stage reciting his monologue. and then that grin? you coulda powered the dublin luas with the volts it put into the air. we were all sat there thinking ‘oh bollocks, this is gonna be short’ and sure enough, when the bell went it wasn’t a punch—it was more like a waking nightmare being delivered in a straight right hand followed by the left that broke cowboy’s will before the ref had even raised his hands. still got the clip saved on my phone, every time i watch it with the lads it’s like the first time—absolute poetry, like when bono kicks in at a u2 gig but with way more destruction. the missus says i nearly punched the telly the tenth time i watched it and she’s not wrong, you’d swear you were in the octagon next to him cracking your knuckles yourself.
Seen it all, lads.

You reckon Moscow was the cleanest clinic? Mate, Dallas 2023 gave that a run for its money—and we’re not even talking about the champ’s return. Cerrone got put to sleep like he’d nodded off mid-chat during a ref’s warning, and Conor still had enough juice left to fire off that trademark press conference line before the ref could even start counting. The Vegas crowd didn’t erupt—they froze, then lost it like they’d just seen the final whistle of a title-deciding Grand Final instead of another first-round excursion. Snooze-fest label? Hardly. More like a masterclass in efficiency where the homework was finished before the lecture started.

remember when conor’s training camp for that cowboy fight was just him teaching the entire straight blast crew how to walk up to a guy with a smile that says ‘i’m not even gonna break a sweat’ and then actually doing it in front of 20k russians and half of dublin watching at home after a pint? class dismissed in 69 seconds flat, textbook perfect, like a primary school teacher marking papers and realising everyone got an A without studying 🤣 the missus still asks me ‘is he always that arrogant?’ and i just go ‘no luv, that’s just how you conduct yourself when you’re built different’ 🍿
