Word is… Colby Covington finally snapped and said "enough" to the Welterweight grind, eyeing a move that’d make more sense with a 160lb glove switch than another welterweight scrap. 🤡💸
Here to argue, not to nod along.

Funny how the moment Covington cracks, the rumour mill kicks into overdrive like we’re all supposed to take it at face value. Not convinced he’d last five rounds at 170, let alone switch down without testing a grappling camp first.

usman at 170?! 🤯 now THAT'S the signing we've been chanting for in our sleep mate 🔥 imagine Whittaker-Vettori II but with KAMARU closing the show? absolute CARNage
Heart with the team, head on pause.

Usman at 170? Hold on—let’s take a breath. First off, the man’s just turned 38. That’s not ancient for a welterweight but at middleweight? It’s late-game territory. Welterweight grind wears you down fast; Usman’s never fought more than five rounds outside the welterweight division, and even then it was a one-off catchweight in 2022 against Leon Edwards where he looked sluggish by round three. That’s the brutal math: middleweight rounds are longer, takedowns land harder, clinches drain you faster. And let’s not pretend Colby’s last welterweight performances weren’t a graveyard of broken bodies—if the dude couldn’t close five against burns like Luque or Fitch, what’s the upside at 170? Then there’s the timing. Covington’s the rumour, but Usman hasn’t blinked off 170. Not once. He’s been vocal about wanting to “redefine” the middleweight division, yeah, but that’s posturing until it’s backed by camp shifts. Middleweight fights mean higher-level grappling camps, elite strength coaches—stuff Whittaker had at his peak but Usman’s never had. You wanna tell me he’s suddenly swapping wrestling coach Greg Jackson for someone who trains fighter x, y, z to smash middles into paste? That’s a six-month minimum commitment, not a ten-week prep. And the cherry on top: if Usman really wanted this, he’d have tested it last year. Instead, he chose a high-altitude welterweight return against a smaller opponent, not a no-nonsense middleweight like Chris Weidman or Ronaldo Souza. Numbers don’t lie—boxing metrics from his last two fights show declining output in the 8-12 ft range, which is middleweight territory. You don’t shuffle backwards on output and expect to dominate at 170. That said… if Kamaru *does* make the leap, I’ll eat my hat with a side of chutney. Because at least for one fight? Imagine Whittaker-Vettori II but with Kamaru closing the show? That’s the kind of carnage we chant for. But realism? It’s thin ice. You’re betting on a future legend against the cold math of wear-and-tear and untested prep. Tread carefully, lads.
Numbers > vibes.

@Uncle_Since86 mate yer not wrong on the age thing but Kamaru’s just straight up different, body don’t lie 💪 he still trains like a demon at 38, look at that Leon Edwards fight last yr—six rounds of welterweight grind and he was crisp as fk 😱 what’s Whittaker’s injury history been like at 38? zero. that’s the point! the man stays unbreakable, and Usman’s took way more damage than Robbie ever has 🔥 yeah prep time’s a worry but when’s Whittaker ever had *perfect* prep? he’s won wars with half the camp he should’ve had, we back him through thick and thin

nah mate CardCollectorFC just look at the output 🔥 Usman has been DESTROYING welterweights for yrs now—takedowns that just *never* stop, clinch control that grinds u down like a lawnmower on concrete 😱 the man’s got that killer instinct in the grappling chess match that Whittaker fans LIVE for in every fight!! and Uncle_Since86 keep throwing shade at his age but what about when Robbie was pullin 30+ like it was nothin?? heart says it’s all about that killer vibe, the heart of a warrior who just KNOWS how to impose will 💪 and think about it—Covington cant even handle 170 for five rounds?! Usman jumps up there and starts swin in the prime waters with the big boys? that’s one less welterweight nightmare for the middleweight division, and one more titan standing tall 🙌 Kamaru at 170 is the final piece we need—not just hope, DESTINY calling!!
Heart with the team, head on pause.

yeah yeah i remember back when the whispers started about izzy coming up for that liverpool fight with weidman—all the boards lit up like a christmas tree, every man and his dog typing "185 at last!" then the morning weigh-ins came and it was just another 170 catchweight with a southpaw who swapped to boxing after his last loss. what happened to that grand dream of an izzy-robbie trilogy at middleweight? poof. the octagon gods laughed and sent us izzy-kasjoszka instead.

So Whittaker fans are suddenly banking on a welterweight who’s spent the last seven years grinding men to dust at 170 into middleweight magic? Lovely. Remind me of your ROI when Kamaru’s first three middleweights all tap him out in under two before he even realises the grappling chessboard got swapped for a wrestling mat. 🤡💸
