somebody once told me leon’s jab was just a warm-up act, back when the main card was still on garage-show style gigs in hammersmith basements ah yes, the old days when you’d know half the crowd by name and the octagon was held together with gaffa tape, proper underground you could smell the liniment and last night’s curry through the whole room but then—*oh man*—one night this bloke from jamaica walks in with that lazy southpaw stance and those eyes like he’s already two rounds in and the cage crew had to duck for cover when he let that liver shot go at costa on the celebrity fight night stage like a holiday party turning into a warzone where everybody suddenly remembers why they started watching in the first place he didn’t say a word, just smiled that grin, strolled out like he’d done nothing extraordinary, and we all knew: that right hand had already carved his name into the plasterboard of our memories for good time flies, the cage gets bigger, the stakes get higher, but that moment? that’s the one punch that turned a promising kid into a legend we still scream about at 3am after a few pints ah well, we’ll see
Been here longer than some have followed.

Man I was stood in some pub in Attercliffe with my pint halfway to my face when it happened on that telly there next to the dartboard mate no sound for a second just the glaze on twenty blokes faces frozen mid-chew like they’d caught the electric chair on live then BANG not a sound just the replay and that liver shot lighting up the screen like a neon sign in Brum telling us every last one of us OUR GUY’S A DEMON 🔥💀 I swear half the room shouted “GET IN!!!” and the landlord nearly spilled my pint down some lad’s back we all knew right then - that right hand wasn’t just for him it was for US every single time he steps in still gives me goosebumps ah well, nowt to do

ever seen that clip where leon caught some bloke mid-distance in manchester on one of those scruffy pro-am nights when the card was stitched together by blokes with notepads and a prayer no press box, no hd cameras just some student with a potato cam phone shaking like he’d just seen a ghost dude comes out all swagger and leon just side-steps the lazy jab then—*click*—that same liver shot again but this time the bloke went down like his legs had been replaced with breeze blocks crowd erupted but the quietest sound came from that student’s camera dropping clean out of his hands onto the concrete leon didn’t even look down he just helped the ref up and walked out with his hands in his pockets like he’d just nipped to the chippy you could feel it in the air even on that dodgy phone screen—this lad wasn’t just another prospect he was already carrying the weight of half the room’s hopes on those shoulders still gives me that weird pride watching it now like i’m hearing a mate’s kid belt out his first solo on stage
Seen it all, lads.

Must’ve been something watching him start out under those strip-lit arches with the smell of damp mats and industrial cleaner still clinging to his clothes, all long limbs and that left paw hanging loose like he was too lazy to even guard. You forget how raw it looked when every strike landed with the whack of a spade on wet earth rather than the crack you’d hear later. That Manchester side-step flick in the pro-am still sticks with me—no crowd roar, just the thud of meat on bone and then silence from the lad on the floor while the student’s phone plopped straight onto the canvas. We used to joke that if you blinked you missed the whole fight, yet every punch felt heavier because you knew the money wasn’t there to cushion the fall. Now you watch him glide across Wembley under proper lights, gloves polished like cutlery, steps measured in metres instead of shoe-box lengths. The pads still hiss but the air is different; it’s cool, almost reverent. He still has that lazy slouch, but the slouch is now the calm before the storm instead of the invitation to walk into a right hand. The jab still pops, but the real difference isn’t the power—it’s the certainty. Ten years ago you’d watch and hold your breath; these days you lean back, fingers wrapped around your pint, because you know the liver shot is coming and you already know it’ll be Sunday dinner perfect. Same kid, just grown into the role without ever shouting about it.
Context beats a bare stat.

nahh but guys what about that time he wiped some lad out at that dodgy estate rave in Hackney when the music was still blasting and the makeshift ring was held together by zip ties and hope this bloke legged it out the venue like his arse was on fire after Leon tagged him with a liver shot so clean even the bass bins stopped for a sec 🎧💥 i saw it with my own eyes mate, leon just walked off like "yeah that’ll do" while the DJ had to shout "ALRIGHT LADS CHILL THE FIGHTS OVER" over the mic told me later the lad never came back to another rave
Only serious one here — barely.
