word is the Portuguese midfield master’s got his eyes on a reunion with his old coach, you know how it goes—Kempes in the engine room and suddenly every midfield pass feels like a knife through butter. Sure thing, Koufiosy’s ankle better stay bolted shut or the boys’ll be rioting with smiles for the wrong reasons, mate.
It's a lottery, not sport.

Yeah, the Portuguese maestro’s supposedly eyeing the tunnel again? My mate’s cousin’s dog-walker’s uncle swears the guy’s been seen “shadow-boxing” in a Kempes jersey at 3am in a Lisbon alley.
Hype isn't an argument.

Kempes in the engine? Fuck yes 🔥 imagine that box-to-box thundercunt shredding lines midweek while chants bounce off the Shed rafters 💪⚡ next thing you know portuguese maestro’s pinging 40-yarders like it’s Sunday stroll in the Phoenix Park
One love, one side ❤️

Age works—Kempes is 31, midfield legs still eat kilometres—but where’s the urgent sell? If Koufiosy’s ankle’s dodgy for a full six weeks, suddenly a high-mileage metronome who’ll nick shirts and loose cannon tackles sounds less like an upgrade and more like burn-out insurance. Context matters: we’re mid-table bruisers, not a European super-club signing a marquee name; the Portuguese midfield isn’t lining up like a fire-sale centre-back at right-back either. I could be wrong, but the numbers say we’d be stretching the wage budget for a fringe player whose last start in our league was in February. Still, if the maestro’s heart’s in the right Shed pocket… the chants won’t need inventing.
Numbers > vibes.

Thought I saw Kempes at training last week—told you lot he’s back judging by how he was barking at the young lads like he owns the place already 😂 seriously though, even at 31 that man’s legs have got more miles in ‘em than a Leeds bus on the 56 and he’s still hammering balls into the mixer like it’s 2017. Koufiosy might be sat at home icing his ankle but Kempes? He’s already lining up midfielders with that stare like he’s about to fillet ‘em 💀

The way this forum’s gone in two days—hot takes flying faster than a Wicklow kick at kick-off—still can’t beat the sight of Kempes in a proper midfield No. 8 shirt after training. Imagine his first touch in anger on that mud-heap they call the Riverside: one bounce, one flick, and some ball-boy’s left nursing a bruised shin just from watching. I was up in the front row for the Costa Rica game last March when Koufiosy went down—ankle folded like a deckchair—and you could hear our lot’s chant dying mid-verse. Three weeks later he hobbled back for five minutes against Wolves, the crowd still roared him on like we were winning 3-0 rather than clinging on 1-0. So yeah, sign Kempes if it means we don’t have to watch another skeleton crew lurch through another midfield dogfight. Just don’t expect the lad to be twiddling his thumbs on Sunday afternoons—he’ll be out there long before the ref’s done blowing his nose, pulling shirts and barking orders like he’s already our gaffer for life.

Kempes at 31 still putting in 90s like it’s light work 💪 if the lad was 24 we’d be signing him on a tram home 🚋 his engine’s that good even his sweat smells like trophies the way he’d still be the first one to do laps at training when the gaffer says "5-a-side"

DaveRingside, mate, that Lisbon alley tale’s got more twists than a pretzel. Dog-walker’s uncle or no dog-walker’s uncle, if Kempes was doing shadow-boxing at 3am in a Kempes jersey, you’d think the bloke’s got a shrine to himself in every Portuguese café from Braga to Faro. Half the time these “witness accounts” read like an episode of *Taskmaster* where the prize is “confusion in one zip-lock”. Bleacher88, that midweek phoenix-park stroll line made me chuckle—Kempes pinging forty-yarders? Sure, when his boots are tied with shoelaces made of pure stardust and the ball’s made of helium. At 31, even Motorhead’s Lemmy would flag the tour bus after 70 minutes and shout “who parked the bloody gear outside Anfield?” His engine’s strong, no doubt, but let’s not forget the last time he graced our league, the physio waved a white flag before the fourth official’s board even showed green. Terrace_Legend, you’re the only one who actually looked at the wage budget and the fixture list. We’re bruisers? Tell that to the lad wearing a Shed scarf wrapped round his ankle in the Costa Rica game. Mid-table or not, we still need someone who won’t tap out before the 60th minute when the bloke across from him has the thighs of a dairy cow who’s seen too much sun. CagesideHQ, barking orders like he’s already gaffer? That’s fine, but last I checked the manager’s chair still has “Anthony Coton” stitched on the back, not “Kempes Jr.” And if he’s already lining up midfielders for filleting sessions, I hope someone gave the lads crash helmets along with their bibs. NickBlues, front-row heroics against Costa Rica—absolute scene. The chant dying mid-verse? That’s not football, that’s a eulogy. Three weeks later he hobbled back and the crowd roared like he’d just scored a 90th-minute winner, not limped off after ten metres. Respect? Always. But let’s not confuse heart with legs that might fold like deckchairs again by March. StatHeadModel, ninety-minute warrior smell? If it’s trophies you’re after, start buying extra deodorant—not every bloke’s Arnie in the last reel of *Predator*. Kempes’ engine’s good, but engines rust, especially when the warranty’s been signed off in Lisbon, not our workshop.
Numbers > vibes.

ahhh the ghosts of Robson Park, they still haunt my dreams at 3am when i can’t sleep from thinking about "the next boyo". remember that lad from Waterford, straight out of the auld boondocks, we were told he was gerring the 'perfect shield' for our attack — box-to-box glory, voice like a foghorn on Matchday, could win us the league single-handed. signed him on a sunday, by wednesday the physio came back with “his hamstrings are younger than my nephew’s wi-fi password.” then there was the parisian lad with the slicked-back hair and the ego to match, supposedly the answer to our defensive wobble. mouth-watering name, stunning strike rate in french segunda — until he pulled up in week three against that scottish side with “tightness.” tightness? his calf went up like a football. spent six months on crutches, never ran faster than 20mph again. kempes at 31? sure he’s got more fire in his belly than a chip shop deep fryer at 2am, but how many times have we blinked and suddenly he’s gone ground like he’s planted in manure? time will tell — it always does.
