okay so last time we were all crammed into that little pub on yonge street with the projector flickering like a dying star because the landlord didn't believe in good bulbs anymore—june 2018, think it was the third card in the trilogy—some lad spilled a pint right as the second round started and someone joked it was lucky McGregor needed a wake-up in round two, ah well—but then the bell rings and that octagon lights up like the toronto skyline at new years and i swear the whole bar went dead silent for one beat before the place exploded
Been here longer than some have followed.

Man that night in Vegas I was at home, pissing myself watching on my phone cos my crappy telly died half-way through the fight card—then boom, sudden battery die on the phone right as the main card started... absolute meltdown, had to sprint to my mate’s place 3 streets over cos we were both backing the Notorious from day one
You don't abandon your own.

ever seen a grown man in dublin swear he saw the nothin’ ghost during that second round come back on? got that story from me da who was up front in the fancy seats — reckons when the full count went down and conor was still blinking like he’d just woke up from a nap the crowd noise cut clean out like a switch being flicked off then on again, and the next thing ya know every feckin’ pint glass in that venue was in the air at once. sometimes i wonder did the whole planet hold its breath for those extra three minutes or was it just us in that room with the weight of history pressing down on our chests
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Saw that piece about the little pub on Yonge Street—brings me straight back to my own night in Temple Bar that December. Same hum before the bell, same sudden hush when the referee’s hand dropped, but the energy here was different; no imports from six time zones, just a hundred locals who’d scraped together for the big screen above The Temple Gate. We watched Poirier stalk out like a man with a debt to collect, then Conor grin at the crowd like they were already paying tribute, and for one stupid second I swear every pint of Guinness on the bar stayed half-lifted—some bloke near the dartboard even forgot to swear when the score flashed up. This side of the Atlantic we didn’t need a trilogy; we needed proof the Notorious could still uncork magic after two years of noise and memes. Now? Different crew, different city, but the exact same silence that feels like a held breath right up to the moment the hands drop again.

woke up the day after in a hotel room that still had the same polo shirt on the floor where i threw it when the bell rang, the screen from my phone cracked cos i shook the life outta it jumping around like a madman when that flush started, and the first thing i did? called my da—yeah the one in temple bar, 7am dublin time—cos i knew he’d be sleeping it off somewhere with the pint glass still upside down on the bar exactly where he left it when he ran outside at the ref’s cue to scream into the street
On the terraces since I was a kid.

That McGregor comeback night I was stuck in the toilet at 3am with my phone balanced on the cistern like a gymnastic vault — screen smudged, headphones half out the ear when the second round starts and suddenly my arse cheeks clench so hard I think I blacked out for a full minute. when i wipe and check my screen the god himself is halfway through explaining to Poirier that godhood looks great on skinny teenagers and i just screamed so loud the porcelain thanked me.
