remember that dive bar on queen street where the projector died mid-bell and half of us spilled our pints on each other just to find out later the camera angle got blurred at the fight started... ah the good old days when we used to huddle around a 24-inch crt like it was the holy grail
Been here longer than some have followed.

Man, Zoe, your crt story hit me right in the feels coz I was the bloke who chucked his pint at that exact dive bar! crushed my second one trying to shake the projector dust off the screen 😤🔥 then after the blur cleared and we saw our king knock that NZ guy out... whole pub erupted so loud they nearly flattened the jukebox

hang on a sec, remember that greasy spoon in archway where we all piled in after the weigh-ins with those dubious-looking kebabs still on our minds back when pereira had just turned pro and we were still making do with whatever screen was bolted up behind the bar? we’d only got audio for about two minutes in before the landlord dropped the karaoke machine volume to half just so his missus could belt out ‘total eclipse of the heart’ over the top and that’s when we heard that middle finger at 1:03 of the first round—suddenly every pint in that place felt like it was cooling too slow or too quick depending which way your heart swung, couldn’t tell if it was fear or fumes
Seen it all, lads.

Still remember the low ceilings back then—five bodies pressed against a 17-inch CRT that kept losing half its brightness every time someone booted up FIFA in the next room. Those were the nights when Alex felt like a local kid from Vila Alpina who somehow boarded the global stage with nothing but tape on his wrists and fire behind his eyes. The picture flickered, the commentary broke into static, but every muffled syllable carried that same growl: “watch this.” Now we’re floating on Wi-Fi streams, 4K angles, commentary baked straight from the stratosphere, yet something’s lighter, less electric. Not worse—just different. Those early years had the hunger of a man running late to his own destiny. Today’s fight room screams in Dolby Atmos, but the air doesn’t tremble the same way it did when a cheap projector whited out and you could still hear Alex crack jokes between every breath in his corner. Then the blur cleared and you saw that right hand snap back like it was offended by Adesanya’s existence—still pins me to the wall every replay.

ain't nothing like the time we had in that damp cellar under a launderette off newcastle's quayside with a cracked laptop balanced on a washing machine and three extension leads daisy-chained from the landlord's flat upstairs. remember how the wifi would cut out every time the spin cycle hit the second rinse? aye, we were seconds away from missing the livestream altogether when suddenly the screen froze mid-image save for the fighters frozen too—like god paused the universe. then the audio started lagging behind by half a second and we heard just enough to know the first round had turned ugly in the worst way... until the feed juddered back to life and we caught the tail end of pereira's right hand lifting adesanya clean off his feet. the whole room erupted like we'd just won the lottery, except we hadn't even washed our clothes yet and someone's skint leggings were still tumbling in the dryer above us. that night wasn't about clarity, it was about blind faith. we didn't need the angles—we knew our boy. still get chills thinking about the sheer chaos of it all, plus the ghostly smell of fabric softener mixed with stale crisps.

You ever get to that age where you swear your memory’s glued all your fight night stories together with industrial strength PVA and a handful of coins rattling around the bottom of the same pocket? I swear I was at that Newcastle launderette gig too—only difference is my half-brick laptop battery died precisely when Adesanya dipped below the hips, so I spent the next two minutes crouched like a man possessed staring at a black rectangle that smelled faintly of fabric conditioner and existential dread. When the feed finally crawled back to life the only thing still moving was Alex’s glove in slow-mo, and the entire room screamed so loud I swear the spin cycle actually heard us and cut straight to final rinse out of sheer respect. And people wonder why I still check hotel room towels for spare change and stray bits of plasterboard before a fight week—muscle memory never forgets a dodgy connection or a second when the universe pauses just long enough to show you who’s really in charge.

remember that night in that same launderette when we all had to strip down our jeans just to use the emergency dryer power to boost the laptop because the landlord cut our fuse for blasting "caipirinha da realidade" so loud it shook the spin cycle into a percussive death rattle 😂🤣 then mid-fight the audio cuts out and we’re left staring at a still frame of pereira’s face like he’s judging us from inside the screen—and someone yells "HE CAN SEE US" so now we’re all throwing socks at the laptop like it’s haunted while the leggings upstairs start vibrating like a mini dubstep drop then feed comes back and we catch that right hand leaving adesanya’s soul still stuck in the dryer 🍿🔥 whole room forgot how to breathe, forgot how to spell "launderette," just pure uncut love for the king
Memes are analysis too.
