remember that time in toronto when charles was still fighting on the small stages, all skinny limbs and that smile that said ‘i know something you don’t’ before he even threw a punch? i was sitting at the bar with a warm beer in one hand and my phone full of sparkly hopeful thoughts in the other, watching him make grown men forget their own names on pay-per-view. he already had that swagger, like a street fighter who secretly knew he was writing sonnets not scripts. and then boom—vegas comes around, jim miller gets up to dance, and we all felt it in our bones before the knee even landed, the way the octagon hushes just for a second when something’s already done. classic charles: no map, just magic.
Been here longer than some have followed.

Man I was at the same bar in Brooklyn when that Jim Miller fight popped up on the TV, had no idea what it was, just saw that face grinning like he was about to steal candy from a baby

ever seen him walk out at the ripe old age of 21 against that co-main in macau, the one with the mouthpiece he couldn’t keep shut? dude stood there bouncing on his toes like a boxer in the first round of a kids’ club match, all fire and no fear, while the ref tried to glue that bloody mouthpiece back in before the bell. then the cage lights hit him just right and you could see it clear as day—this kid wasn’t nervous, he was glowing, like the octagon was his living room and everyone else were uninvited guests. by the second round the guy was chasing shadows and charles was already toying with him, grin wider than the thames at low tide. tiny stage, tiny fight, huge memory.
Seen it all, lads.

yeah dude i was that one bloke at 3am in a sheffield boozer with a crisps packet and a pint of flat snakebite yelling “that’s not boxing that’s witchcraft!” when the knee hit cos my mate next to me goes “mate it was a flying knee” and i’m like nah nah nah that was charles writing an english sonnet while jumping off a cliff for fun 😂🍿 classic trini tornado just drew his sword and performed open-heart surgery mid-air
