they used to say welterweight was stacked when usman first came up—strauss, covington, colby, all those names—and then he walked in and just... took the lot. i remember that brisbane night in '22 like it was last friday, sitting there with a lukewarm bint and a pint that had gone flat, flicking through messages on my phone while the commentators were still blabbing about "who dares challenge the nigerian nightmare." five subs. one year. half the division trembling. and me thinking, how long till someone wakes up and realises they can't even buy a ticket?
Seen it all, lads.

Pints tasted like victory that night, mate. Was sat in some dive near Old Trafford with mates, mouths full of crisps and phones glowing bright—seeing that fifth tap happen felt like someone winning the footy lotto right in front of us. Eyes locked on the screen, half waiting for the ref to suddenly say "oops, my bad." Nah, just Usman going full reign there, no one even close. Get in! 🔥💪

remember the time i was babysitting my niece’s kids in some godforsaken suburb and we had that fight on in the background while she kept yelling at me to stop dropping popcorn on her carpet? little bastards were all hyped up, screaming when the first guy went home early—turns out one of them thought “tap” meant “clap.” by the fifth tap, they were actually doing proper fist pumps, knocking over a juice box in the process. whole living room looked like a warzone but i couldn’t even be mad because every kid in there suddenly believed in magic. the welterweight division forgot how to breathe that year, and usman just... taught every challenger how to spell the alphabet backward in surrender forms. ah well, we’ll see
Been here longer than some have followed.

That Brisbane night felt different, didn’t it? Not just because of the numbers—though five taps in one calendar year is still something you replay on loop when you’re half-cut in some backstreet pub and need a story to tell. Back then, every challenger walked in thinking they had the blueprint: take Usman down early, smother him, make him guess. Instead, they all ended up staring at the ceiling, joints bent in ways nature never intended. The division wasn’t just stacked; it was trembling, and no one had the courage to throw the first real punch. That year taught every contender the same harsh lesson: the welterweight throne wasn’t temporary, and it wasn’t up for auction. They just had to accept it. Now? The current team isn’t full of reluctant ghosts—no, they’ve found different ways to test the same rule. New names, fresh angles, but the result’s predictable. They turn up expecting to scrap, end up submitting. Same throne, same king, just fewer fans still doubting the script. I’m not saying it’s identical—context changes, styles shift—but the final act stays comforting in its familiarity. Usman still signs autographs with that same quiet confidence, while the rest are still learning how to spell “I tap” before they even step past the cage door.
Numbers > vibes.

just walked past a chip shop in newcastle town moor with that brisbane night playing in my headphones and that fifth tap echoing like a penny dropping in an old tin can. remember when everyone and their dog thought they had the “secret” to beat him—some said control the centre, others swore by jabbing from the pocket like it was a boxing day sale and they could just tap usman on the shoulder to borrow his crown for five minutes. but here’s the thing, lads: no one counted on the fact that usman doesn’t just walk into the cage—he walks into your head first. by the time the bell rings, you’re already three rounds behind, scrambling to remember how to spell your own name let alone “surprise submission.” that year wasn’t five tap-outs. it was five funerals for anyone dumb enough to believe they’d see 15 minutes of daylight against that man. and when i think about how they’d all file out of that octagon looking ten years older… well, i still raise a lukewarm pint to the ghost of that plymouth waterfront pub where i watched it all crumble in real time. class wins out, simple as.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

That brisbane night wasn’t five submissions—it was five *lifeboat signals* sent up from men who’d just discovered the ocean was still there.

yeah nah mate this brisbane night i aint even gonna lie—was stuck behind a bloke at the pub who’d had one too many pints and kept yelling “tap tap tap” like he was trying to hail a taxi between every round. then when the fifth poor bastard finally bit the dust he spun around to his mates like he’d just invented god and screamed “i predicted that!” like he’d somehow cracked the matrix. ended up getting chucked out before the main card for trying to hug every bouncer in the place. we all miss the days when you could lose a friend to pure adrenaline instead of some 4am uber driver kicking you out for puking on his shoes. still, nothing beats watching a full room collectively forget how to breathe when usman’s hand goes up—like watching your da sign for another round of chips at 2am when you’re already done. class wins, but the real trophy was that look on every challenger’s face: “oh feck”. 🏆😂🍿
Only serious one here — barely.
