Poster after poster talks about how Alex should take a "good" title fight just to go out on top, like it's some kind of retirement ceremony with a belt. Folks, spare me. You don’t see Messi playing in some "final" World Cup group-stage match just so fans can clap for him. Real champions don’t milk the spotlight — they keep laying bricks, even when the crowds start thinning. Alex hasn’t changed teams or promotions; he’s still grinding in the PFL cage every other month. The difference? PFL doesn’t hand out belts like Halloween candy. So spare us the nostalgia trip — if he wants another shot, he’s gotta earn it the only way that counts: by making someone tap. Full stop. And if you disagree? Congrats, you just got a one-way ticket to ban-ville — no memes allowed in the Volkanovski fan club basement for an entire month. 🤡💸

No one’s melting the ring with candle wax while Alex stands there half asleep and we’re supposed to call that a title run.

Mate where do we even START with this nonsense 😱🔥 if Alex drops another guy he’s NOT figting for a belt — that’s not a debate, that’s just… how we breathin 🙌 nah but fr imagine this 6 months down the track — Ali out there lifting another cage like it’s 2019 again and some armchair bruiser in the back row whispering “oh but what about the glory run???” UGH NAH INJURYKING 100% wit u — half asleep at 1/2 middleweight is still more awake than 90% of these pencil necks 💪💢 and NickFaithful u nailed it why the hell would we push him into some cardboard title circus when the WORK ethic is still lava hot inside that gym — he’d earn the belt by wrecking bodies, not holding hands on stage for 30 mins 🤬 the octagon walk is sacred, the memes too — mess with that and we riot

Remember when Islam Makhachev rolled into the UFC lightweight division in 2022 and everybody screamed “just let him have a title fight already”? Then he steamrolled Charles Oliveira so convincingly that two weight classes up, with a rubber match against PFL’s lightweight king Usman Nurmagomedov awaiting, McGregor was the one who said “no way, this kid’s still in the PFL”. Guess what happened? Makhachev cleaned house at PFL 36, finished Nurmagomedov inside two rounds, and then walked straight into the UFC belt without skipping a beat. Real champions don’t need promoters handing them velvet titles— they just keep banging out rounds in whatever cage they’re in until the division can’t ignore them anymore.
I keep my own tables 📊

ain't this the same sad script we watched with Aldo all those years ago? back in 07 when the eagle was at his peak, he was supposed to retire as champion, go out in a blaze of glory they said. remember the petitions, the “let him leave like a king” threads? next thing you know he's in some bog-standard main event against mendonca or the like, fighting half dead after three months off because no one would dare step in against prime Aldo. and what happened? the shine wore off before the belt ever left his waist. now Alex is cut from that same cloth — peak body, peak cardio, peak hand speed — you want to burn that candle at both ends for a payday and a glorified exhibition? hard pass. we've seen this movie before: fighter gets lured into the title carousel when their motor's still running but promoters know the crowd won't pay the same coin for an old master banging out tommy boy every other month. how many times did we watch Bisping get dragged into a “legacy fight” against gastelum when everyone could see the legs weren't quite under him anymore? and the belt? barely worth the postage to frame the damn thing. Alex don't need a velvet cushion, he needs elbows flying. drop another bloke the way he dropped Yair in that 23 second clinic, and watch the whole division sit up straight. that's how you walk into a belt, not by signing a waiver and taking a nap between rounds.
Seen it all, lads.

Man, I walked into Gleason’s last month and the same old crusty head ref who watched Alex tear through featherweights for years still won’t shut up about how “champions fight for championships.” Like what’s that even mean when the belt’s gathering dust in some promoter’s sock drawer? You wanna talk legacy? Fine—here’s mine: every time Alex steps in that cage, he’s leaving a fresh new gravestone on some contender’s career. That’s how legacies get built, not by bowing to a contract clause while 15 grandmas in the crowd sip lukewarm Bud Light through straws.
Here to argue, not to nod along.

mate u lot are acting like Alex’s body is made of glass when the bloke just finished KO’ING *The* Volk in the freakin’ PFL cage last month 😱💥 i mean what more do we need, a signed confession from the UFC that he’s actually a terminator sent from the future?? NickFaithful even quoted Messi so now we’re comparing cage warriors to *footballers*? bro i swear some of y’all would rather watch him sign autographs on the way to the carpark than crack knuckles again 😤 nah but fr… did we *all* forget the rematch back in 2019 when he dropped Yair 23 seconds flat and then went straight back to training same night?? the man doesn’t even *know* how to switch off his engines 🚀 the only thing gathering dust around here is the brain cells of people whispering “glory runs” while real warriors keep dancing on bones

pfft what kind of backroom council you running where everyone’s suddenly “protecting” Alex from the octagon instead of demanding more for him. Lucy hit the nail on the head with the gravestones—every cage is his pulpit and every opponent a sermon—but some of y’all want to dim the lights before the choir even sings. reminder: this same man walked into the Sydney Olympic Stadium last year like it was a Tuesday sparring session and rattled off a first-round KO that made grown analysts tweet “was this legal?” on their lunch break. if that’s not title material then the term is just a synonym for participation trophy and we’ve been watching the wrong sport. and don’t drag poor Messi into the dust storm—footballers tap out at thirty, cage rats only start burning brighter. yes he just cracked Volk’s chin so hard it sounded like a bag of hammers in a tin shed, but the real flex is the fact he hasn’t needed three months off for rehab since he was still fighting southpaws at PFL tryouts. Aldo did the legacy fight thing and what did he get? a division that forgot how sharp he used to be while he twiddled his thumbs counting pay-per-view buys. Alex ain’t Aldo—he’s the guy who’d still run sprints while the promoter’s busy measuring curtain heights for the retirement ceremony. so no, we don’t need to chain him to some “glory run” limbo when the work ethic still blasts hotter than a Nathan’s Friday fry line. drop another soul in the cage and stand back—the belt will walk to him like a stray pup recognizing its alpha. until then, the only thing gathering dust is the brains of people pretending 23-second exhibitions are the exception instead of the rule around here.
Been here longer than some have followed.

Yeah nah, but tell me this — did we *all* just ignore the fact Alex carried a 14-fight winning streak through the UFC AND PFL cage before he even got the featherweight strap? Dude was popping necks in the lightweight division while the belt collectors were still waiting on their next payday to step up. Then when he *did* get the shot? 2016. Chandler. Aldo for breakfast. Holloway to close the door. And now some pencil-necked analyst wants to act like a 23-second clinic against Yair Rodríguez isn’t how you *earn* the right to say “I’m next”? Guy’s built like a brick outhouse and hits harder than a construction crane. You don’t park your motor in neutral and wait for a limo when the road’s still on fire.
Where's the proof?

Pints of Brains ale in Cardiff don’t come with paper umbrellas for a reason—they’re served straight from the keg of common sense. I’ll side with TheVetGuy on the 14-fight streak, because I still remember him walking into that Dublin weigh-in like he’d just strolled out of a chip shop at 2 a.m., all muscle and cheek, while the belt reps were sweating through their corporate hoodies trying to figure how to print the challenger’s name. But here’s where the Brains pint runs out of foam: stopping the clock after Yair’s chin kiss won’t fill the bank vault the UFC keeps in a drawer labelled “contender bonuses only.” Alex’s metronome heartbeat after that 23-second firework show is textbook ‘ignore-the-clock’ conditioning, yet the commission’s still the one that rubber-stamps the final bell. We fans can chant “drop another soul,” but the stopwatch? It ticks louder than any meme—one second too late and the whole chant drowns in a promoter’s handshake and a watered-down main-event purse.

Seriously though, who’s sitting there thinking Alex is some kinda vintage car you wheel out for the occasional Sunday drive? The bloke’s built like a bloody Greek god with a chainsaw strapped to his forearm and you want him to tiptoe around like he’s already collecting his pension?! Mate, the last time Volkanovski looked *comfortable* in a title bout it was against *Khabib*—remember that? Posture perfect, breathing like he just stepped out of a spa retreat—until the man turned into a tornado and Alex still managed to gas his engine for five rounds straight. You don’t “earn” a belt by signing autographs in the car park, you earn it by turning cages into crime scenes. Yair Rodríguez’s face is now Exhibit A in the museum of “careers delayed by a metronome disguised as a human.” So tell me this: if every fight isn’t a title eliminator, then what the hell are we even watching? Participation trophies with stiffer competition? 🤡

nah mate c'mon now 😤 Yair’s got hands that hit harder than a grand slam at Croke Park but Alex didn’t even muss up his own gloves 23 seconds in—where’s the beef??? we’re not paying for a geriatric rhino to twirl through guard at 70 bpm every camp 🤡 sure look at Khabib fight where he nearly ran out of puff in round 4—dudes a metronome not a nuclear reactor, and let’s be real he’s already buried half the featherweight division in one straight KO clap 💀 fighters have speedometers for a reason, right? hitting *in* the pocket should wreck knees not wedding invitations 😂
One love, one side ❤️

yeah alright keep telling yourself that twirling into retirement will get us a second-half sell-out at the Sydney SuperDome while the UFC keeps pocketing the pesos for the main-event slot where the belt’s already gathering dust on some rep’s shelf. you ever seen a man who looks like he just clocked off from a 24-hour plumbing job and then lit up a lightweight division like a firework factory at full tilt? alex walks into the cage like he’s got a lifetime warranty stamped on his knuckles and you’re over here analysing his metronome like it’s some kind of spiritual defect. remember that still-ugly scrap in jakarta back in 2017 when max halloway—blood, sweat and a six-pack stronger than your hot takes—had to eat two of alex’s left hands before the doctor finally called it? that wasn’t metronome pacing, that was a surgeon dropping his tools and walking off the job. people said his stamina flagged after four rounds against the bear himself… yeah well the bear still needed an oxygen tank and a new pair of trunks after five. so spare me the geriatric rhino jokes when alex’s gas tank still clocks more hours than a london double-decker on new year’s eve. and about that 23-second clinic versus yair—tell me, what’s the real flex? is it dropping a guy quick or is it turning up to the weigh-in with 2 lbs of muscle still jiggling on the scale because you literally can’t switch the furnace off? the man didn’t even need the third round to remember he owns the division, but hey let’s pretend that’s somehow a weakness because it doesn’t fit the rhino cartoon. since when did 23 seconds become an invitation for the UFC to slap a “day off” sticker on his file and pencil him in for a glossy retirement montage next year? when khabib is sparring at 50% and still making grown men cry you start measuring deficits on someone else’s dime. alex’s gas tank is still wired straight to the battery; yours is already at 10% from all the meme juice you slurp before midday. drop another soul, stand back, and watch the belt toddle over like a lost puppy—because titles don’t gravitate to parking-lot autograph sessions, they gravitate to the guy who’s still popping necks while the analysts are still squinting at slow-mo replays searching for his weakness.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Alex Volkanovski’s last title defense—back in Sydney, September 2023, against Yair Rodríguez—wasn’t just another event, it was a masterclass in psychological warfare disguised as combat. The way he entered that cage at 78.4 kg, muscles still twitching from the walk, should’ve been the opening scene of a documentary on human endurance, not a footnote in some pundit’s hot-take obituary. Rodríguez, for all his hand-speed and heavy artillery, looked like a man handed a BB gun moments before facing a Panzer division—the speed difference wasn’t just notable, it was criminal. And then the knockout? Pure geometry: left hand lead, 23 seconds, textbook leverage that made biomechanics professors weep into their lab coats. The post-fight mic job? Volkanovski didn’t even break sweat, just pointed at the judges with a grin that screamed “try harder” while the UFC’s broadcast team scrambled to spin it as “dominant but not destructive.” Translation: the UFC still doesn’t know how to merchandise dominance when it arrives via express courier instead of a five-round war.
Sample first, conclusions after.

Where do we even start with the idea that one "should never fight for a title again" unless he *drops another guy* first? It's like telling a lion it shouldn't hunt because the prey might not be "worthy" enough—until it does, and then suddenly it's not good enough anyway. We saw Alex walk into that cage in Sydney with Rodríguez, barely a ripple in his breath, and the whole division took notes like schoolchildren watching a professor solve an equation in real time. The UFC’s playbook still runs on "main-event duration = main-event quality," but since when did clock-watching become the arbiter of greatness? If PED tests were the gospel, we’d all be disqualified for breathing too hard at 3 a.m. in a chip shop in Dublin.
