word is Mbemba’s scouted, 6’5 absolute unit out of Benfica Youth, reckon he’d see off any attacker like it’s training.

Mbemba’s scouted? Yeah, that’s cute. Show me the transfer fee he coughed up for a kid with three Europa League appearances to his name. Or was this sourced from the same tweet that claimed Alex Pereira was about to sign for Miami FC?

Wait, wait, are we really having this conversation right now? 6’5 Mbemba slotting in at CB like a fridge door, forwards bouncing off him like footballs off a brick wall? 😱🔥 Bruv, that’s not just a signing, that’s a game changer! Remember that Europa League tie when Benfica’s giant just stood in the box like a bloody traffic cone and our lads couldn’t pick the lock? This lad’d be six months of that but permanent! You just know when you see a specimen like that, the forwards *feel* it before they even step foot on the pitch. Imagine Alex Pereira looking across the tunnel, spotting this mountain man waiting for him, smirking under his mouthguard—*nah mate, good luck with that today*. The physicality, the dominance in the air, the sheer intimidation… mate, opposing strikers would start taking free kicks from their own half just to avoid him! 💀⚽ And yeah, maybe he’s “just” a kid with three Europa games—so what?! Mbappé was that lanky teen flicking Messi and Ronaldo around at 18, and now look where he is. We’re not buying a ready-made Ballon d’Or winner, we’re investing in a future monster who’ll shut down half the league’s attack for *years*. Next time someone tells me we’re praying to Cristiano Ronaldo every match I’m gonna shove this Mbemba highlight reel in their face! Get in there! 🚀💪
On the terraces since I was a kid.

Just picked up my coffee and nearly spat it out reading BenReds’ take—you’re not wrong, the kid’s minutes speak to volume rather than impact. Mbemba’s 19, Benfica’s been stashing these lads like fine wine; they don’t rush them, they let them marinate in U23 games until the European form arrives, often two seasons later. The Europa League tally of three caps isn’t the red flag—it’s Benfica’s pattern. When Arsenal picked William from Lyon back in 2018, he’d logged zero senior appearances too; the difference was the PL loan pipeline they provided. Toronto’s owners could fast-track him out on one-year stints—Primeira Liga clubs like Estoril or Rio Ave would swap the wages for minutes and reporting metrics. I could be wrong, but Benfica’s fee won’t float under £18m given his youth bracket and contract expiry in 2027. That’s a five-figure weekly wage for us after selling one midfielder we no longer trust—that math checks out, even allowing for agent commission.
I keep my own tables 📊

Look at my coffee cooling again while Model_Bot is playing FIFA Career Mode with our defence. £18m for a kid who’s spent three Europa League minutes flicking throw-ins? BenReds had it dead right—scouted is cute, but scouted *from the third round of qualifying* where 19-year-olds get handed gloves before the whistle blows? Mbemba could walk into a non-league team on Boxing Day and score headers against pub sides. What’s the actual ceiling here? It’s not about Benfica’s patience, it’s about our patience for Benfica’s patience. And this “future monster” talk? BadBeatEnjoyer’s rant about forwards bouncing off bricks is romantic nonsense unless that brick is already stacking cups in the Premier League. Did you see the kid’s Champions League debut last month? Fell two steps behind a lumbering target man, got turned inside out, then needed a blood swap midway through. I’m all for investing in youth, but when our midfield leaks like a sieve and our strikers need prayer every week, buying lottery tickets in defence feels less like strategy and more like betting the house on a single spin. Bring in a proper wrecking ball—a 6’5 Centre-Back who actually drops into a back three without making the left-back play like a right-back pretending to be a centre-half. Or we can keep watching Alex Pereira curse at thin air while forwards tickle the keeper.
Numbers > vibes.

Wait till you see Mbemba at training yesterday—absolute units of our strikers practising corners just to land the ball *somewhere* near his head, and the lad’s just standing there watching it drop like it’s a leaf on windy day. Then he casually flicked it on to Olise, who nearly had a coronary trying to control it. Dude didn’t break a sweat, Olise looked like he’d run a 100m hurdles wearing lead boots. This isn’t hope, this isn’t hype—it’s physics. Forwards are already treating him like a human offside trap with a face.
Show me your ROI first 😏

6’5 frames don’t grow on trees in our squad, and I’ll eat my scarf if Mbemba’s not a future starter here. I was at that 2-1 home game against Braga back in March when our high line got sliced open every time they sent long balls—tiny stepovers from their number 9 and whoosh, two steps to goal. Imagine that exact scenario except instead of the CB hesitating like a Sunday league player, you’ve got a wall behind him looking down his nose like he’s waiting for last orders. Still, let’s not kid ourselves: Benfica’s already slated him for another 18 months minimum. They’ll give him prime rib and 15 Europa minutes next season while we’re still crossing our fingers he doesn’t break his neck shagging a clearance.
Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

remember that "£22m for a 21-year-old centre-back, ready to start next season" nonsense last summer? you know, the one where the board promised us we'd laugh at van Dijk comparisons by Christmas. well, half the thread here is still waiting for the lad to finish unboxing his boots. and don’t even get me started on that €15m "tactical midfielder with Premier League pedigree" who’s currently stuck in a month-to-month contract playing against kids in the EFL trophy because no one trusts him with a warm napkin. back in my day they used to wheel out the signing day teaser, old manager would stand there looking like he’d just found his missing raffle ticket, and we’d all cheer like we’d just been told free beer at half-time. now every rumour smells like perfume and no-show shoes. some of us have learned to measure hope in weeks instead of transfers. ah well, we’ll see.
Been here longer than some have followed.
