think that was the night when the whole world stood still for just one second, watching bones take that middle finger to gravity off woodley’s jaw in 2017. took a ticket down the lane from stratford to manchester just to feel the air in the room, and proper goosebumps when that counter landed like a thunderclap. remember standing next to some lad in a jones 13 hoodie—complete stranger—but we both gasped at the same time when the head shot connected. you know how it is with these moments: time slows, then stops, then whoops everybody erupts like christmas and bonfire night had a baby
Seen it all, lads.

Tell me there’s a single soul who felt that pop off Woodley’s jaw n’ still had dry eyes 😱 had tickets to the card in Vegas that year coz mate dragged me out on the strip for his birthday weekend, reckless as hell but couldn’t miss Bones make history! Fight HQ was packed to the rafters, sweaty armpits of fans, microwaved burger smells everywhere, screen freezes on 11 when Bones loaded that right hand—ah yeah mate, heart stopped dead then whooped like we’d won the league cup 🙌 crowd turned to absolute bedlam, some drunk lad hugged me shouting “HE’S FLOATING MATE” n’ I just lost it, proper sobbed in the moshpit cheering
You don't abandon your own.

yeah and you lot remember when Bones chopped that light in the back of Woodley’s skull in 2014 in the cage with shogun? not the highlight everyone shoves down your throat, but the one where you actually *felt* his bones rattle—like hitting a telegraph pole with a wrecking ball. i was sat next to my da in the front row at the cage, he’s got one of them old school fight passes and wouldn’t let me in line without it—proper scrooge he is—but when that flush left hook landed he damn near fell off his stool and grabbed my arm so hard i thought he’d pulled a ligament. three rows in front some bird actually screamed “that man’s made of marble!” and didn’t even notice she’d spilled her overpriced prosecco all down the bloke in front. nothing beats the silence in that second before the crack, then—good god—the noise. like the roof got lifted clean off the building and a thousand people suddenly forgot how to breathe. still got the programme somewhere with woodley’s name half-blurred where i went over it with a sharpie when he lost the belt for doping. ain’t never felt so alive in a room full of strangers, and we all knew then—this bloke wasn’t just another scrapheap star, he was rewriting the textbook with his knuckles.

That first run was just the pure art of what this man does—every camp was a masterclass, every card a carnival where you’d leave feeling like you’d witnessed something you’d tell your grandkids about. The current crew? They’re carving their own lane too, but you can feel the floor is a different shape now. Bones in 20-0 had that old-school fairy-tale swagger—all long limbs and late-night highlight-reel finishes where the crowd turned into one big organism shouting through the screen. This new batch fights smarter, eats up the chess pieces quicker, but there’s a little less of the “wait for it” suspense; the KO artists today move like surgeons with hammers—brutal, but clinical. Still, you catch a Volkanovski or a Pereira under the lights and suddenly the hairs on your neck do the same dance—just a quieter scream, maybe, because the game’s grown up around them. Same fire, just a different fuel.
Numbers > vibes.

blimey, you lot are making me drag out the old memory box again. back in 2015, i was stuck in a pub in newcastle with my nephew who’d just discovered mma on youtube—the lad kept going on about “bones being a cheat” like he’d read it in the sunday times. anyway, Bones walks out at ufc 182 to fight Gus, and my nephew pipes up from the back “nah nah nah, he’s a snake, he’ll forfeit”. five seconds into round one Bones catches Gus with that spinning elbow and i swear to christ the whole pub went *whoosh*—like someone pulled the plug on all the oxygen. this little bloke next to me, who’d been heckling the whole night, literally spilled his pint over his own lap but didn’t even notice. afterwards we were all outside in the freezing rain just hugging random strangers and shouting “MARBLE BONES” at the taxis. that moment wasn’t just about the win; it was like Bones had flicked some hidden switch in every fan in the room and suddenly we were all part of the same secret club. you can’t bottle that feeling, mate—it’s either there or it ain’t, and i reckon none of these new kids will ever truly *feel* what we did when the needle dropped below 1% on those counters. the young lot never saw that kind of raw, no-bullshit magic—just replays and diss tracks. proper shame, really.

Just tried explaining to me missus why the neighbours all stood in a trance like zombies outside at 4am after UFC 214—she reckons I musta slipped some of Bones’ sparring mitts in her tea. Cheeky! But bless her, she still lets me keep the framed programme from ufc 182 under our bed instead of binning it as “mma tat” like she threatened. Proper legend. 🍿🤣
Hold my pint.
