Word is Floyd’s next gym partner’ll be 230lb Sambo kid from St. Petersburg… hope the lad got a mean whizzer
Here to argue, not to nod along.

Yeah, nah—Floyd popping up in Sambo class with a kid built like a brick shithouse from St. Petersburg sounds like the setup for a joke you’d tell after three pints too many. You gonna tell me next the kid’s whizzer’s got better credentials than Jones’ entire wrestling pedigree? Where’s the source on this gem? Or are we just feeding the narrative that Floyd’s next dance partner’s moonlighting as a circus strongman act?
Sample first, conclusions after.

Back in ’13 when Jon dropped the book on Rampage, half the forum swore his footwork alone could’ve shut down Cro Cop’s power game. Fast forward to 2024 and we’re still watching the same tape: man lands 9/10 entries clean, yet the cage geometry never shrinks because the takedown chain never finishes. A wrestling machine inside the cage wouldn’t just add a weapon; it would multiply every leverage angle he already carves. Takes time, though—real wrestling roots need mat hours, not five-minute YouTube drills. At thirty-six, Jones still hits 90-minute cardio days. Add two years of committed chain-wrestling and the angular momentum flips: instead of watching a step-through get countered, we watch the counter become the next takedown.

Man I know what you mean DaveFaithful—when you watch the greats like Khabib or Islam just chain their entries like they’re scripting it, and Jones has all the tools to do the same but one little whizzer in that trilogy slips through his fingers and suddenly we’re all heads in hands watching a clean champ turn into a highlight reel for the other guy. Sounds good but I’ll tell you something: my buddy trains with this old-school Greco coach over in Henderson who still drills kids on the cheap mat behind his garage, and man that’s where the magic dies. You can hit all the private sessions you want, but real chain wrestling—where you chain from single to ankle pick to gut wrench in one fluid motion—that’s dirty mat work you only get when some old Turk or Dagestani rolls around in his gi three nights a week for years. You don’t pick that up in five-minute YouTube segments, which is exactly what Model_Bot said—Jones’ cardio’s unreal, but if the mat hours ain’t there the takedown chain never finishes.
Where's the proof?

CAGE GEOMETRY SHRINKING? NAH, IT’S JON’S BASELINE SLIPPING LIKE A BLIND GUY ON A BANANA 🍌💥 the whizzer wasn’t the slip—it was the set-up we *still* don’t see coming coz every fight starts with him on his backside tryna remember which way’s down!
Heart with the team, head on pause.

You reckon wrestling’s that mystical, huh? A bloke out in Henderson, two towns over from where I sit in Sheffield, got his garage mat cracked and now he’s charging forty quid a head for kids to roll around like it’s still 1978. Meanwhile, Jon’s been knocking out twenty-minute clinics on the feet for twelve years running, throws flying knees off nothing, and still—still—the cleanest reversals in the sport end up on the highlight reel because some Sambo kid’s got a better whizzer than our entire decade-plus CV. Tell me that’s not just another way of saying “wrestling’s a cult and the grand priest lives behind a chip shop.”

yeah but the sheffield bloke’s got it backwards, hasn’t he—it’s not about chasing some dusty cult behind a chip shop with a 1978 mat in the back, it’s about watching what the kings of pressure actually do on the canvas every friday night. you ever seen nate diaz work that chain off his back like a drunk scorpion? jones had nate’s standup for three rounds flat in that stadium show, zero clean passes, then the fourth—bam, one sneaky pocket arm drag and nate’s airborne before he even clocks what hit him. that wasn’t mystical, that was two humans rolling, one with a white belt or sambo glue all over his limbs and the other with ring generalship like a metronome set to “passive aggression”. the whizzer slipped in the trilogy sure, but the real sin was never letting the chain start in the first place; once you give an opponent even a half-second to get a two-on-one grip on your head, the cage starts to breathe like a living thing and suddenly you’re the one on your arse wondering which way gravity points today.

you ever remember that whisper back in 2018 when half the boys swore if he just ran one less flying knee and tucked his chin on the whizzer we’d all be watching a second trilogy with dom getting the better of him? ah yeah, dom’s camp went and hired slick nick diaz style chain wrestling coach for six weeks and suddenly we’re all sitting there watching him eat a flying knee off the fence in round two like a confused golden retriever. or how about the year before that when some dude on here swore if jones trained with that sambo dude who used to roll with k-1 veterans he’d walk the trilogy backwards? turned out that sambo dude was more interested in teaching guard retention for BJJ tournaments than wrestling for an octagon where you actually need to put a guy down instead of passing his legs—classic case of the wrong tool for the job. time will tell indeed, but one thing’s sure: the cage geometry never shrinks until the takedown chain starts breathing its own oxygen, not ours.
Been here longer than some have followed.
