ahhh man, i still get chills when i think about that octagon from 2018, when gaethje walked in and left a trail of broken faces behind him like some kind of unstoppable human wrecking ball. you ever just *feel* the cage shake when he steps in, like the whole building’s holding its breath? that night against pettis—i can’t unsee that left elbow at 1:11 in round two. one second pettis is talking trash, the next—BAM—lights out. i had my coffee spilled everywhere, my mate next to me screaming like we’d just won the lottery, and gaethje just standing there like “yeah, that’s how it’s done.” and the crowd? pure madness. never seen so many grown men shed tears of joy all at once. good lord, what a time.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Yoink, throw me back to that bloody night in Phoenix 🤬 man i was perched on the edge of the bar stools with my boots still caked in mud from the farm, pint halfway gone, and then BAM round two starts and—fuuuuuck—suddenly every single beer glass in the pub is rattling like an earthquake. Pettis starts his mouth running, Gaethje just blinks once and—WHACK—elbow drops him like a ton of bricks. My pint went flying, mate spilled half his burger in his lap, we were both screaming blue murder right in the middle of the pub like we’d won the lotto, ah well nowt to do the landlady gave us the evil eye but who cares?! That left arm is pure lightning, heart says it all.
On the terraces since I was a kid.

remember when gaethje fought eddie alvarez in 2019, that octagon felt like it was breathing fire every time he lunged? wasn’t even halfway through round one when eddie’s jaw made that sickening crack, the sound carried through the whole arena like a gunshot. i was watching with my old man who’s seen fights since the pride days, and i swear he went pale as a ghost—never seen him shut up so quick. his hand clenched my shoulder so hard i thought he’d leave marks, just staring at the screen like, “dear god, they actually make people like this.” and then gaethje stood there, gloves still raised, mouthpiece out, grinning like the whole thing was just a Tuesday.
Been here longer than some have followed.

Man, those were the days when G1 didn’t just walk in the cage—he *erupted*. Every time he stepped in, it felt like the ground was about to split open. That night in Phoenix with Pettis isn’t just a highlight, it’s a damn *religious experience*—one second Pettis is chirping, the next he’s flat on his back with a face that’s seen better weekends. The whole pub shook, glasses rattled, people lost their damn minds—pure chaos, but the kind you live for. Now? G1’s still in there, still throwing bombs, but it’s different. That same spirit’s there, sure, but he’s got a weight now. Not just the champ’s belt, though that’s obvious—it’s the way he carries himself. Back then, he was a human cyclone, all relentless forward pressure and filthy elbows that made jaws meet the canvas. Now? He’s dialed it back just enough to be *calculated* chaos. He’s not just swinging for the fences anymore; he’s picking his shots, dancing between fire and ice. The edge is still razor-sharp, but it’s tempered by experience. You miss the unfiltered destruction, no doubt. But here’s the nuance: the man’s evolved without losing his essence. He’s not that wild kid anymore—he’s the experienced hunter who still knows where the kill shot is. And when the time comes, he’ll remind us all why they call him The Highlight Reel.
Do the math before you argue.

Cheers for the nostalgia overload, lads—listen, I’ll say it straight: you’re painting a picture of G1 that’s half-truths and half-myth. That Phoenix night with Pettis? Yeah, it was absolute carnage, and we’ve all got the clip burned into our retinas—but let’s not pretend it was some flawless execution. Pettis wasn’t just “chirping” like a pigeon in Trafalgar Square; he was laying into him early, stuffing takedowns, and landing clean shots that rattled Gaethje’s skull. The elbow? Sure, it landed flush, but Pettis had already stung him with a front kick that made the crowd wince. G1 wasn’t some untouchable wrecking ball that night—he got tagged, blinked a few times, then unleashed hell. Myth-making does us no favours; we weren’t watching a god, we were watching a man who got hit before he hit back harder. Same goes for Alvarez—Eddie wasn’t a scared rabbit, he was stepping in with a 12-3 record against top-tier lightweights. The crack you heard? It was loud, but it wasn’t the first time Alvarez’s jaw had been on the menu. Gaethje ate some leather before he served seconds. So spare me the “erupted” and “religious experience” hyperbole—yes, those nights were electric, but they weren’t flawless. And if we’re being real, that calculated chaos you’re all praising now? That’s just evolution. G1 still throws bombs, but he’s not swinging at shadows anymore; he’s picking his spots like a sniper with a Molotov. The wild kid didn’t disappear—he just learned where to aim the storm.

hold on lads—i swear i still got that elbow impact replaying in my HEADPHONES every time i run in cardiff when i'm half-cut at 2am after closing up, right? 🎧💥 the pub crowd wasn’t just screaming when that left arm SNAPPED round—defo the most bone-jarring sound i’ve ever heard come out the telly, like someone dropped a bag of spanners on concrete live on tv. remember how the referee literally jumped back two steps when pettis hit the deck? guy almost took a foot to the face cos he was THAT close. and gaethje? still standing there, gloves down, just staring like “yeah i told you so” while pettis’ legs were doing the spastic dance. that night wasn’t just a fight—it was the octagon throwing a punch at the whole world and gaethje catching it with his face… then sending it to sleep for good.
Heart with the team, head on pause.

So here’s me at the 2018 Phoenix card, half-cut on Pabst like a proper MMA fan should be, when G1 walks out like a man who just fed his dog live squirrels for breakfast. Halfway through round one, Pettis lands a leg kick that sounded like a car door being kicked in by a blind builder—everyone in the pub gasped like we’d just seen our first real ghost. Then BAM, same kick, louder this time, and Gaethje’s face just… deflated for a second. Like someone unzipped him. I turned to my mate and went “ooof, he’s gonna get dropped,” and suddenly every single beer bottle in a 20-foot radius started doing the cha-cha. Then round two hits, Pettis starts the mouth music, and G1 blinks once—slow, like he’s thinking “alright, time to paint the room red.” Left elbow drops, Pettis does the swan dive off the stool, glasses go flying, and the ref jumps back so fast he nearly tripped over his own shoes. And Gaethje? Just stands there, gloves still up, like “cheers, mate, try to stay awake.” Pub erupted so hard the karaoke machine thought it was audition day for Glastonbury. Landlady grabbed the mic and started singing “Sweet Caroline” to calm everyone down, which just made the chaos 10x worse. Still owe her £47.78 for broken glass. But worth it every penny. 🤣🍿
