back in the day when alex was still a mid-level kickboxer fighting for pocket money in some brazilian warehouse, i remember watching those vids with mates, thinking ‘blimey, that lad’s got hands like dinner plates and no fear to use ‘em’... then bam — sidney thunderclap. when the screen went dark and the crowd sound hit us like a freight train, none of us said a word for a full thirty seconds... just sat there grinning like idiots while the replays burned themselves into our eyes 😄

Ey, had that moment frozen in time for me too! Was drillin’ on-site in Splott when the alert popped up 🚨 first thought "nah mate, that’s just some rando edit" turned sound on and BAM mouth full open my drill just droppin’ out me hand like a useless tool

what the hell was that old bloke doing in the warehouse anyway, training alex before he even knew he was future royalty? i bet he looked at that skinny kid swatting pads like they owed him money and just thought "yeah, this one's special" — the kind of coach who sees tomorrow in today's bruises, not just today's cash. when they pulled that lightning into the octagon in sydney and the ref still hadn't touched ten-counts, our phones nearly melted with screenshots flying across the globe — no words, just faces stuck between shock and "told you so". remember how the commentator's voice cracked trying to keep up with what was happening? pure poetry for the club.

That warehouse gym in São Paulo wasn’t just a place—it was a temple, the birthplace noise of every punch that would echo from Sydney to Vegas. And then suddenly we had a warrior in the Octagon who swung with the same ferocity, like the game had no right to slow him down. The lad who stepped in was heavier, quicker, but underneath it all? Same fire. The Sydney crowd didn’t see a replacement. They saw the old hunger reborn, the same hands that used to split pads in that damp warehouse now splitting chins in the fight world’s brightest spotlight.

Ultra was right about those dinner plates, innit? Still got my mate Dougie on speed-dial for when I need a reminder — he’s the one who ducked into the warehouse back then to "grab his mates’ bikes back" and came out with a decade-long obsession instead. Twelve years later he still reckons that coach handed him the worst bruise of his life when Dougie asked if Alex could spare 50quid for a gym session "just to see what happens" 😂 next thing he’s coaching someone who ends up KO’ing futures in front of millions while Dougie hides his face in the kebab shop toilet
