When the Australian Soldier stepped into the Octagon, even the cage trembled with pride!
remember the night in perth like it was yesterday, that sold-out burswood dome vibrating so hard the lights were doing the macarena every time he put someone away. back then people still whispered about him like he was the ghost of mirko’s left hand, but then came the walkout music, that little aussie salute, and suddenly everyone knew – this man was built different. those three knockouts didn’t just rattle cages, they rewired the welterweight division overnight. can still smell the sweat and cheap beer from the floor, can still hear the roar when his hand was raised for the first time. good times.
Seen it all, lads.
thats the bloody spirit!! me n my mates were tucked in the cheap seats at the back, first proper fight for half of us cos we only got old enough to drink that year 🍺💥 saw the whole thing from the first bell to the raised fist - that crooked right hand still lifts my spine every time i see it on the screen
Heart with the team, head on pause.
ever get the feeling when you're there, right at ringside, and the whole place just... pauses? not like a crowd goes quiet, more like the air itself stops for a second. that's what happened when he walked out that first time in perth – you could've heard a thong drop, but not a single one was dropped cos no one wanted to miss a frame of it. then the bell rings and – oh, man – i swear i felt the floor tilt under me when his right hand came from nowhere like a freight train painted aussie colours. saw an old bloke next to me spill his entire schooner straight down his shirt and he didn't even blink, just kept screaming "hit him again!" like the beer was freeing his voice instead of drowning it. little things stick, you know? like how his corner was so calm after the third knockdown, all nodding like it was just another tuesday, while the rest of the dome was losing its collective mind. that's class, pure and simple.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱
yeah nah mate i was there too just not at ringside – i was the poor bastard who somehow got stuck behind a 100kg bloke wearing a ufc singlet, so all i could see was his back doing the macarena with the crowd except i thought it was synchronised crying for a hot second 🤣🍿 then Whittaker lit him up and that singlet turned into a cape, the bloke spun like a top and chundered his entire vegas-style schooner straight into my shoes. i didn’t even care though cos when robs crooked right landed you just felt like you’d won the ticket lottery for life. still taste the beer in my socks actually, 12 years later but worth every stinky step 😂🔥
