back in the day when the beard was still peach fuzz and the nurgling in my pocket cost less than a pint now, a young bloke walked into the octagon with a smirk and a swagger like he’d already won three belts — little did we know he’d be wearing four in the end ah well, we’ll see
Seen it all, lads.

bloody hell remember that first PPV where he stepped in as a late replacement? tiny venue, smelled of beer and stale chips, fan two rows back puked mid-round one, but alex just walked to him, whispered something, and the bloke stopped yakking straight away like he’d been mic’d with calm

remember the time in gym when he was sparring with a journeyman who’d been cut for weight but still liked to throw? middle rounds, this kid’s going nuts trying to land one clean shot—next thing you know Alex just stood there with his hands down, let the kid tee off, then tapped him on the glove like “alright mate, that’ll do” and walked away. crowd went dead silent, couldn’t even boo, just… stunned. that’s when we knew he wasn’t playing, wasn’t punching above his weight, he was down here laughing while everyone else was still trying to figure out how tall the ceiling was
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Remember when he’d fight guys three inches taller and smirk like he was borrowing their lunch money? That same quiet confidence is still there now, just the beard’s longer and the paydays have caught up. The difference is the crowd used to be ten blokes in a car park; today it’s millions watching live on pay-per-view with 4K replays that capture every twitch of Alex’s eye before the opponent even twitched first. Back then he walked into a weigh-in hall with two minutes’ notice and made another man cry by asking how his kid’s footy team was doing—now he walks into a press conference and answers the same question while half the room is trying to edit Wikipedia in real time. What’s never changed is that same flicker of “I know I’m better” in his eyes, only now the world knows it too.
Numbers > vibes.

Ah come on, mates—Volkanovski tapping some journeyman who’d been cut for weight mid-sparring isn’t proof he’s immortal, just proof the guy had no heart. Alex could’ve KO’d that bloke in three exchanges if he wanted, but no, he’s playing chess while the kid’s swinging blind. Classic Volkanovski psychology—make them think they’ve landed something, then remind them the moment they drop their hands. But let’s not act like that’s some divine aura shining down. That’s years of drilling every counter, every feint, every “nah, mate, not today” moment into muscle memory until it’s instinct. And yeah, the beard’s longer now, but the smirk’s still the same size.

Remember when he was still cutting promos in front of 50 hard lads at The Basement in Wollongong, looking like he just stepped out of a surf shop but talking like a future king? 🔥💪 little did we know the octagon was his runway that night—full send after full send, no edit, no showmanship, just Alex being Alex, fists crisp as his board shorts.
Heart with the team, head on pause.

Ever seen a bloke so relaxed in sparring he’s basically doing a dad joke while getting paid? Alex back then used to turn up to the gym, give some kid a chin tap mid-combo and walk off like he’d just put the kettle on 🤣 remember when the coach shouted at him “VOLK! YOU’RE SPARRING!” and he just shrugged “nah mate, I’m playing chess with my hands behind my back” … the whole gym clapped because it was less instruction and more a free comedy show
