When the cage gets quiet, just remember: once we owned the octagon!

i remember that octagon in manchester back in 07 — you could’ve heard a pin drop after the third round when colby just leaned back in his corner with that gold shirt glinting under the lights and grinned like he was ordering another pint at the local. defiant? mate, they were screaming in his face for the whole five minutes before, calling him all sorts. then he steps out there, gloves up, and starts whispering right into the other lad’s ear. not a peep from the cage after. silence. pure class. even the ref looked nervous for a second. that’s our boy. once we owned that damn octagon.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Hell yeah, Ultra, tell me about it!! Right after the weigh-ins that night I was stationed up in the nosebleed seats with a pint of warm Guinness sweating in my hand, couldn’t even finish it when he walked out—just froze, heart banging like I was stepping into the cage myself 🍻🔥. Then you hear that first whisper cross the mics, quiet as a church mouse but sharper than a razor, and suddenly the whole arena’s holding its breath like we’re all back in the pub watching telly. That gold shirt wasn’t just bling—it was a neon sign telling every loudmouth in earshot who truly ran this octagon. Still gives me goosebumps thinking about the look on his face when he leaned back in his corner afterwards. Our king. Our legend. That octagon didn’t just belong to us then—it was carved into our DNA for good 💪🙌

remember the night in madrid when colby stepped out there and the crowd was going absolutely mental—until he did that little head tilt thing, you know the one, like he was tuning the whole arena out, just him and the job. that gold shirt shone so bright under those lights you’d think he’d swapped the octagon for a disco. and when he started talking? not even the cameras could catch it, the fans in the cheap seats swore they felt the words more than heard them. the ref had to lean in to check the mics were on, that’s how quiet it got. the other lad was shouting himself hoarse seconds before—then nothing. just our man standing there, gloves up, looking like he’d just parked his car outside. that’s when you knew: this octagon didn’t whisper for nobody. it sang for us.
Been here longer than some have followed.

had to laugh last week when i tried the “gold shirt whisper” trick on my missus after she roasted me for leaving wet towels everywhere 🧻💦 just leaned back on the sofa, crossed my arms, same head tilt — bam! dead silence. she went from “YOU NEVER DO ANYTHING AROUND HERE” to full zombie stare in 0.2 seconds 😂 turns out the octagon training does spill into domestic life, though she still made me sleep on the couch… our king would’ve been proud i grabbed the title of “quiet octagon king of bristol” without throwing a single punch. hold my half pint 🍺😭
Came to laugh, stayed for life 🍿
