hold on let me just remember the first time i saw that madman live, proper chills. was in atlanta back in 2018, some smokey underground place with the heat bouncing off the walls. Poirier comes out for the weigh-in and the crowd loses it like he just knocked someone out — no belts, no titles, just that grin and those hands that looked like they could crush a beer can without even trying. the guy looked like he was having the best day of his life just walking in, you know? and then boom — right there in the forum later, someone drops the actual fight clip on this tiny old crt screen, prelim crowd, both guys tired as hell... he somehow finds that right hand in the last minute of the third and lights the place up. i swear the whole flat jumped. even now when i see it again i still get the hairs on the back of my neck. that was the night it all clicked — this bloke wasn't just a contender, he was painting his name in fire.
Seen it all, lads.

Man I was in a Port Glasgow dive bar with 5 quid to my name watching that fight on a flickering phone screen like the rest of us plebs 🤬 then BAM—third round lurid right hand just when we'd given up on that round ending any time soon 🔥 like someone just turned on the stadium lights at 3am right there in that smoke hole of a place. We're all there with pints half drunk and knees bouncing cos nobody thought he had it left in him—then that shot! His whole arm just *extended* like a piston and lights went off behind my damn eyes too even on that crackpot screen 😱 put the glass down and just stood there like 'defo see that' ah well, nowt to do
Heart with the team, head on pause.

wait till you hear me tell you about that night in halifax when i saw him on his way to antyone else back then a promo for a gym opening of all things smoked out dive bar with a pool table that tilted like the titanic and a jukebox that only played greenday covers just small-town nova scotia nonsense this guy gets wheeled in by the local promoter like he’s on tour with some underground punk band, still got the glow from that atlanta rush probably, hands in his pockets grinning at everyone like he’s about to ask for a loan not a mma fight they wheel in some poor sap from new brunswick who thought he was the main card star and by the second round it’s over but not like a boring 3-0 decision — no, it’s that stupid stunning shovel hook that comes out of nowhere while the crowd is already screaming for blood and suddenly the whole bar turns into one organism all going ‘jesus fuck’ with their hands in the air i had a dollar ninety-eight in my pocket and my coat was soaked from the rain outside but for two minutes there i felt like i was standing in some mad chicago stadium watching the rematch all over again just a couple of years later
Been here longer than some have followed.

That Halifax night’s a stone-cold classic for sure, but I’ll be honest with you, lads—the fight we saw last May in Raleigh still gave me those exact shivers even if the setting wasn’t a tilted pool-table den in Nova Scotia. Same grin walking through the curtain, same ease like he’s just popped round for a cuppa, not a three-round war. Different venue, though: Raleigh had the lights low and the crowd tight, a proper modern cage where every seat’s got a view. Poirier came out and, instead of the smoky haze from a Halifax juice bar, you could smell the salt-air air-con drifting in from the Outer Banks—fight-week vibe mixed with ocean air. The shot that dropped Gaethje was still that piston right hand, no fancy angles, just the pure compact violence he’s carried since Atlanta, but this time it echoed off a thousand phones turned torch-lit instead of one fuzzy CRT. Same diamond core, just polished a little brighter under stadium-grade LED instead of a flicker.
Do the math before you argue.

What, the Raleigh one was better than Halifax now is it? Halifax was pure grit — tilted pool table, Green Day on loop, the whole bar vibrating like it was built out of speakers. Raleigh’s got your Outer Banks salt air and LED beams all nice and tidy, but where’s the soul in that? Halifax was a war zone made of cardboard and spilled beer, and Poirier walked through it like he owned the place while some chump from New Brunswick never saw daylight again. Raleigh’s just a glossy rerun, Halifax the original bootleg tape that still gives you chills twenty years later. If you’re telling me the stadium LED polish beats the smoky Halifax dungeon, you’ve lost the plot mate.

Poirier’s hands come out of his jacket pockets at weigh-ins like he’s about to hand round the tequila, right? 2018 in Atlanta, grey suit clinging a bit under those spotlights, and the whole room shifts cos he’s grinning so wide you swear his cheeks’ll crack — then he flicks his eyes up and that spark’s still there before the hands even touch the cage.
One love, one side ❤️

wait till you hear me tell you about that time i tried to recreate that Halifax moment in my own tiny flat with a lukewarm pint and a broken smart tv in bristol turns out recreating Poirier’s epic shovel hook KO with nothing but my mate’s spare airsoft gun and a pillow as the "opponent" just leaves you sprawled on the carpet with a bruised ego and a cushion that now smells vaguely of regret 🤣 we had the whole thing planned—me in the "corner" with my hands up like i was the diamond himself, full war cries, the works—but halfway through the "fight" my flatmate walked in mid-chew on a kebab and just stared like i’d lost it completely afterwards we both sat there drinking warm lager staring at the pillow covered in tea-stain bruises and i swear for a second we both had the same chill down the spine cos even my makeshift "KO" left us buzzing like we’d witnessed greatness that’s the power of the Diamond right there—even a botched fan reenactment in bristol still feels like you’ve just seen lightning 🌩️⚡🍻
Came to laugh, stayed for life 🍿
