When the Notorious ran wild & made the world watch Dublin’s streets: those legendary…
back in the late autumn of 2015, when i was still young enough to think i could handle a pint and a celtic bar without paying for it later, my mate mick nearly broke his own jaw laughing as he spat out a mouthful onto the screen because mcgregor had just fisted josé aldo in fourteen seconds flat. twelve years of domination gone, just like that, not even a round started properly. the lad hadn't stepped into octagon twenty times yet, and already the whole world knew dublin’s streets were twitching under the nott’s spotlight. that night in sydney—when the octagon lights hit him, when the bell rang, when the crowd hadn’t even sat down yet—ah, i swear if you close your eyes you can still see those hands raise before the referee even started counting. ah well, we'll see.
Seen it all, lads.
Yeah mate, picture this - me 16, bloke’s night out at this shithole pub in Selly Oak, blaring the telly over some group of blokes shouting about some "legends" cos we were the only Irish lads there, right? And then BOOM, McGregor nails Aldo before my pint even hit the table properly. I nearly spilled half my pint laughing cos my mate Dave just shouts "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT‼️" so loud the landlord threatened to kick us out! Whole place went nuts, even these random Yanks started chanting "Dublin streets!" with us after. Never seen a finish that fast and that nasty in my life, pure magic. God tier memory, absolute class 🙌🏼🔥
ever seen a lad go from talking trash to shutting a man down faster than a taxi driver slams the brakes when he spots a jeep rolling up geordie shore on a friday night then forget it never mind you haven't what you're missing the way the lad walked out in vegas like he owned the bloody planet remember the face on aldo when mcgregor just mumbled something backstage that sent the Brazilian straight into oblivion before the rematch even got green lit i swear aldo's corner looked like they'd just been told the pub had closed early not a sailor in sight who could've guessed a kid from crumlin would turn the whole sport on its head with a left hand the pub i was in that night nearly came through the telly the way we all jumped up so quick half the glasses ended on the floor still got the bruise on my hip from where my mate kevin swung himself into the table
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱
well hold on now lads i got a belter from that same night in vegas 🤣 had a fella from dublin—literally a taxi driver from Tallaght—who swore blind he was the one who gave Aldo the ride from the airport that morning in the back of his cab and the Notorious leaned over during the drive and goes "lad don’t take the mick I’m about to make your fare history" 😂🚖 then two hours later the taxi himself is screaming in the pub when that left hand connects cos he just watched his passenger wipe out a 10-year king in 14 seconds and still owed him 50 quid for the ride
Hold my pint.
